Brassea: “A window on the world opens at Rolanda” Cavagnetto: “Fundamental for the recovery of the environment”

BAIRO. Only in the beautiful green area, between woods and vineyards, between the municipalities of Torre and Bairo, are there five large estates that host as many equestrian centers, stables and riding schools. Centers envied in the Canavese area by other regions of Italy and almost all of them have a historical root in common: the recovery of beautiful abandoned farmhouses or in any case no longer used by farmers, ranchers and peasants.

The “Rolanda quarter horses” in Bairo is one of them. Rolanda was the name of the farmhouse, quarter horses are an American breed of horses that cannot be beaten in running the quarter mile. The project was born in 1990 from an idea, a little between falling in love and madness, of an entrepreneur in the field of quality food and wine, Gianfranco Brassea.

“Initially, the entire structure was used for a few friends: all horse lovers, horse lovers and places where to spend unforgettable afternoons together – recalls Brassea who then explains how – the arrival of a girl, Cristina Guidetto, instructor and tireless promoter of philanthropic initiatives, transformed what was an ideal meeting place for friends into one of the best known equestrian centers in the Canavese area ».

And not only. La Rolanda has become a point of reference at a national level both for the competitive results of its athletes and for the activities related to people with disabilities that it regularly hosts and follows with professional instructors such as Verena Caratti and Marica Materazzo.

«It has been a long journey, often tiring but I would do it again, step by step – says Gianfranco Brassea with a smile, remembering however that – love is the basis of this beautiful dream that has come true. Love for horses and the environment, respect for animals and traditions ».

The same feelings that can be breathed in Cuceglio, in the Baroni stable, in the La Grecia estate where Paola Cavagnetto, 46, has almost entirely recovered an area of 320 thousand square meters, giving life to a spectacular company embellished with gold and silver, in form of medals, which his three children (Alessandro, 17; Chiara, 15 and Silvia, 13) win internationally in a sport that is as difficult as it is fascinating: horse ball.

“We offer the school and horse riding exercises and near the riding school there are horse stables, stables, saddlery and other log buildings related to the functions of agritourism and summer camp – explains Paola Cavagnetto – but at the base of everything there are two concepts : friendship and respect for animals and the environment ».

At the Dora Horses equestrian center of the Battuello Region in Vische, the focus is on the very young and on children.

The sports manager of the riding school Barbara Serasso explains: «During the school period, this year too we will carry out courses to approach horse riding in which children aged 4 to 16 can participate. They will be followed, two hours a week, by the manager of the riding school and instructor Sandro Piccioli and by the instructor Rebecca Mezzo. Quest‘summer we created the summer center with the Spazio Baobab association of Ivrea and it was a success: in eight weeks we had, on average, 25 members up to the age of 14, who made use of the 800 square meter area made available to carry out recreational activities “.
