Hainan Daily, Haikou, February 15th (Reporter Cao Mazhi, Correspondent Yu Zhizhuan Zhao Zhuo) – In response to the peak return journey of vehicles and passengers, the Pearl River Navigation Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Transport has announced that starting from the 15th, the Qiongzhou Strait passenger ro-ro transport will ensure that nearly 300 daily ship voyages will be carried out during the return peak period.

The initiative aims to strengthen the linkage between the ministry and the province, with Qiongzhou and Guangdong working together to dig deep into transport capacity resources and optimize flight frequency. This will help to address the transportation pressure on the south coast, which is greater than that on the north coast during the Spring Festival travel period.

Through preliminary discussions, the Zhuhai Aviation Administration has collaborated with the transportation departments of Guangdong and Hainan provinces to coordinate the cross-strait management departments and port and shipping companies to allocate and increase transportation capacity. The all-reservation sea crossing system is being vigorously promoted, and a total of 53 ships are deployed in the Qiongzhou Strait on main, auxiliary and special routes.

The efforts include the operation of 16 to 17 pairs of flights every day by the Guangdong-Sea Railway Ferry, and more than 280 voyages every day by Hainan Port and Shipping Holdings. The Zhuhai Navigation Administration has also urged port and shipping companies to reserve crew members in advance, with the overall number of passenger and ro-ro transport crew members during the peak return period of Spring Festival travel exceeding 2,300 to meet the full-load operation needs of ships and ports.

To further support Hainan’s out-island transportation, the Zhuhai Navigation Administration has made every effort to coordinate the orderly promotion of emptying ships on the north coast, with 30 empty flights sent from north to south on February 13, 39 on February 14, and 29 as of 15:00 on February 15.

With the passenger flow of vehicles in Qiongzhou Strait expected to reach its peak from February 15th to 17th, the Pearl Harbor Aviation Administration will guide and coordinate cross-strait management agencies and port and shipping companies to increase the frequency of consultations and evaluate the transportation situation. This is in response to recent frequent dense fog warnings, to achieve early exchange of information and consistent measures, providing safety and convenience for passengers and drivers.

The measures put in place are expected to ease the transportation pressure and ensure a smoother return journey for passengers and vehicles during the Spring Festival travel period.
