SAN BENIGNO CANAVESE
A new season of solidarity at the starting blocks on the territory. After the long stop imposed by the health emergency, on November 27 the National Food Collection Day returns, which for many years has seen the Sorriso association engaged in the municipal area for the collection of basic necessities for the most needy families.
Always at the forefront, with its food bank activity, on the poverty front, the association today chaired by Marzia Taricco has seen the number of families requesting support grow in the first months of the pandemic, finding themselves responding to a full-fledged social as well as health emergency. “In the toughest months of lockdown – he explains – the demand for help has increased and we have found ourselves facing new and different needs, not only requested by elderly or lonely people but also by families, to whom we have distributed stationery and materials for distance learning to be discovered and organized. “.
At this time, the numbers of those assisted seem to have stabilized but certainly the social wounds of Covid-19 are still alive and require a great mobilization of resources. Proof of this is the exceptional testimonial appointed this year to raise public awareness of the initiative of the National Food Collection, the captain of the Italian national team with a European title, Giorgio Chiellini. Awareness has never been lacking in San Benigno, says President Taricco: “The response of citizens has always shown great attention and sensitivity towards the issue of poverty and I am sure that this year too, with the support of the participating stores, the good results we are used to will be confirmed ».
The appointment is therefore on November 27 for a return to solidarity which, today more than ever, the territory is in dire need, with the awareness, confirmed by Taricco, that many situations of fragility and poverty have not yet surfaced: “It takes great courage to ask for help, and perhaps many who would need it still have not been able to take this step. The food collection is an important moment to testify to everyone that we as an association and the inhabitants of San Benigno are there and are available to all those who need it ».
