In the run-up to Super Tuesday, Donald Trump won the North Dakota Republican presidential caucuses

In the run-up to Super Tuesday, former President Donald Trump emerged victorious in the North Dakota Republican caucuses, solidifying his position as a front-runner in the presidential race. Trump’s win comes after former UN ambassador Nikki Haley scored her first victory in the District of Columbia primary, but ultimately fell short in North Dakota.

With the most delegates up for grabs on Super Tuesday, Trump and President Joe Biden are looking to secure their nominations later this month. The former president’s win in North Dakota further cements his path to victory, as he continues to lead the Republican primary race.

Under North Dakota rules, candidates must secure at least 20% of the vote to win delegates, with a candidate reaching 60% receiving all 29 delegates. Trump faced competition from Haley, as well as lesser-known candidates David Stuckenberg and Ryan Binkley.

Governor Doug Burgum of North Dakota vouched for Trump at the caucuses, endorsing the former president’s candidacy and emphasizing the importance of his leadership. Voters like Karen Groninger cited Trump’s pro-life stance and border policies as reasons for their support, while others, like Senator Dick Dever, expressed concerns about Trump’s conduct despite agreeing with his policies.

North Dakota, known for its unique voter registration system, conducted the caucuses with in-person, paper ballot voting following official state protocols. Trump’s previous victories in the state, as well as his visits during his presidency, have solidified his support in North Dakota.

On the Democratic side, the North Dakota Democratic Party-NPL is holding a primarily mail-in presidential primary, with candidates including Biden and Rep. Dean Phillips. Senator Bernie Sanders has previously won the Democratic caucuses in North Dakota, adding another layer of interest to the upcoming results.
