In the square in Udine against the rejection of the Zan Ddl: “It’s a shame”

by admin

Udine, demonstration in Piazza XX Settembre for the Zan bill. Hundreds scream in chorus: “Shame”

UDINE. That applause in the Senate for the sinking of the Zan bill was more violent than a punch in the stomach. Because it hurts, for those who have never stopped fighting for the recognition of the civil rights of all people, to see the entire path taken canceled in an instant. In one fell swoop the law passed in the House in November 2020 was demolished and now before six months in the Senate no other one can discuss homophobia.

And on Saturday five hundred took to the streets to scream their “sense of shame”.

Against the result of last Wednesday’s vote (with 154 in favor and 131 against, the Chamber approved the trap proposed by Lega and Fratelli d’Italia) and above all against its implications.

The demonstration in Piazza XX Settembre was organized by Arcigay Friuli, Agedo Udine, Arcigay Arcobaleno Odv, Lune- Lesbiche del Nord Est, Iris University Association, Rainbow Families Fvg, Lgbti rights advocacy – Lenford Network, At school to know us Odv, Fvg Pride Odv, Rainbow Parent Network. With the support of many other associations, such as the Committee for the Civil Rights of Prostitutes, Voce donna Pordenone, Udu-Unione degli Universitari, Anpi Fvg, Arci Ud-Pn, Cas’Aupa, Ora Trieste, Arci Misskappa, Cgil Fvg, Cobas Scuola Ts-Go, Women In Black, Ens National Deaf Organization Udine, Arci Skianto, Arci Gong, Uaar Trieste, Aned National Association of ex deportees from Nazi camps, Jotassassina. In the square also a representation of the Democratic Party with the councilor Alessandro Venanzi, the city secretary Vincenzo Martines and the regional councilor Mariagrazia Santoro.

“154 senators and senators clearly told us that the majority of the Senate – underlines Luca Vida, president of Arcigay Friuli – does not want to deal with rights and they did so without putting their face on it: in Italy in 2021, fighting discrimination is not something logical and natural but an ethical question, thus confusing freedom of speech with the privilege of offending, beating and discriminating on the part of a heteropatriarchal society steeped in homolesbobitransphobia, misogyny and skill.

Most of them cheered, laughing in our faces, I saw in them the faces of those who bullied me as a kid ».

The political class has reported that there are already laws to protect people at risk of marginalization, but “it has deliberately mixed the cards between hate crimes and futile reasons. Homolesbobitransphobia, misogyny and skill – continues Vida – are hate crimes as well as racism and xenophobia. Recognition of futile grounds is at the discretion of the judges and may not be recognized. For this reason it was necessary to extend the Mancino law wanted by the Zan bill ».

“We have not agreed to remove the day against homolesbobitransphobia and gender identity from the bill: the most important aspect of the law would have been removed. Hate is not fought only with more severe penalties, it is necessary to speak in schools and increase the culture of respect for all diversity ”.

In the square, among others, there was also Agedo, an association of parents and relatives of homosexuals, of Udine, led by Anna Masutti, who does not give up and is sure that “sooner or later we will make it”.

“We parents – he clarifies – are helping families to enter the LGBT world after the coming out of their children. We work to ensure that our children are free to express themselves and live their lives to the fullest, but this is a risk without a law to protect them. The Senate trampled not only the rights of homosexuals, but the civil rights of all. I will not forget that applause in the Chamber, it hurt me as I never imagined ».

Angela Cattaneo of Alfi Lune, Arcigay Arcobaleno with Sandi Pulina, representative for Foreign Affairs and Slovenian Minority also took the floor; Nacho Quintana Vergara for Fvg Pride, Stefano Zucchini, Fvg referent for Rainbow Families, Raffaella Barbieri for Rainbow Parents Network, but also Davide Zotti, president of A school to meet us, Alice Chiaruttini’s speech for Iris was read and Ambra intervened Canciani for the Udine University University Ambra Canciani and Federica Rizzi for the Anpi. All shouting “shame” against a political class “who preferred palace games to rights”.
