UDINE. That applause in the Senate for the sinking of the Zan bill was more violent than a punch in the stomach. “154 senators and senators clearly told us that the majority of the Senate – underlines Luca Vida, president of Arcigay Friuli – does not want to deal with rights and they did so without putting their face on it: in Italy in 2021, fighting discrimination is not something logical and natural but an ethical question, thus confusing freedom of speech with the privilege of offending, beating and discriminating on the part of a heteropatriarchal society steeped in homolesbobitransphobia, misogyny and skill.

The political class has reported that there are already laws to protect people at risk of marginalization, but “it has deliberately mixed the cards between hate crimes and futile reasons. Homolesbobitransphobia, misogyny and skill – continues Vida – are hate crimes as well as racism and xenophobia. Recognition of futile grounds is at the discretion of the judges and may not be recognized. For this reason it was necessary to extend the Mancino law wanted by the Zan bill ».

“We have not agreed to remove the day against homolesbobitransphobia and gender identity from the bill: the most important aspect of the law would have been removed. Hate is not fought only with more severe penalties, it is necessary to speak in schools and increase the culture of respect for all diversity ”.

In the square, among others, there was also Agedo, an association of parents and relatives of homosexuals, of Udine, led by Anna Masutti, who does not give up and is sure that “sooner or later we will make it”.

“We parents – he clarifies – are helping families to enter the LGBT world after the coming out of their children. We work to ensure that our children are free to express themselves and live their lives to the fullest, but this is a risk without a law to protect them. The Senate trampled not only the rights of homosexuals, but the civil rights of all. I will not forget that applause in the Chamber, it hurt me as I never imagined ».
