In Vittorio Veneto controversy over remediation: “Forcal will cost € 50 to each taxpayer”

After the Region’s no to funding, it will be up to the Municipality to pull out 1.3 million for the landfill. But of these, only 300 thousand euros were budgeted

VITTORIO VENETO. Each victorious taxpayer will have to pay more than 46 euros to complete the reclamation of the Forcal landfill within one year. A problem that has been dragging on since the early 1990s, with only private individuals making a profit. In fact, one million and 300 thousand euros will have to leave the municipal coffers to equip the large heap of aggregates with a safety cover and to collect the resulting water and convey it into the Sora stream. All this because no contribution has come from the Region through the tender for the remediation of polluted sites.

“We had asked to be included in the list of municipalities with polluted sites to be reclaimed. We were second – says the mayor Antonio Miatto – but in the second list of local authorities. The first list with 11 municipalities has exhausted the expected 20 million euros “.

The Vittorio Veneto administration had asked Venice for one million euros. Another 300 thousand euros have already been in the budget for some years. Taxpayers will therefore be entitled to one million and 300 thousand euros. Mayor Miatto hopes for some Pnrr announcements, but the operation is at least difficult. “The landfill is an old ‘bubo’ that was bequeathed to the Vittoriesi by the Della Libera junta, therefore it still dates back to the 90s – explains Miatto – The Municipality was forced to intervene, due to the agreements of the time, alongside the various private individuals who have succeeded in managing the site. And now we risk finding ourselves paying not only our share of 300 thousand euros, but also that of the private one, the Centro Recuperi Piave, because, after the owner died a year and a half ago, the heirs seem not to want to take on the responsibilities related to Forcal “.

The landfill, started in 1991, was therefore completely filled. However, there is no coverage. And the network of drains is also missing. The land on which it stands are owned by as many as 16 different subjects. The Municipality is the holder of the authorization and the Centro Recuperi Piave in Conegliano has been the manager for years. The final arrangement and safety project was prepared again on 12 December 2017 and was the subject of a conference of services on 14 February 2018. The Province returned it with a whole series of operational indications. But, in fact, it remained on paper, even for the death of the manager of the company. On 25 February the Province established that the Municipality is not only the owner of the landfill, but also the manager of the works.

“The fact is – explains Deputy Mayor Gianluca Posocco – that we don’t have that money, as a current expense.” “It must be said that unfortunately that million will weigh on all Vittorio’s taxpayers – comments, worried, Marco Dus, leader of the Democratic Party -” And we are talking about over 50 euros each, also taking into account all the money that the Municipality has lost so far . For a landfill that was to be fully charged to those who in more than twenty years have instead only made a profit ”.
