The new boarding area A of Terminal 1 of Fiumicino airport will be operational since May 19, inaugurated today in the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella. Intended for Schengen and domestic flights, the first flight from this pier is scheduled at 7 in the morning, an Ita Airways with destination Milan Linate. The work is spread over an area of ​​37 thousand square meters on three levels, cost 400 million euros and is “at the forefront of innovative solutions and environmental protection”. In fact it is equipped with a photovoltaic system, has systems for climatic treatment through radiant floor panels and is mainly lit by natural light thanks to the large windows positioned on the ceiling, similar to real portholes.

Another 6 million potential passengers

It will be able to accommodate another 6 million departing passengers per year at the airport, thanks to 23 new gates, 13 of which are equipped with boarding bridges. It consists of two large structures, connected to each other by a connecting body along which seven original masterpieces from the Archaeological Park of Ostia Antica are exhibited to promote Roman classicism and knowledge of the historical-artistic value of the territory.

10 billion investment plan

This new boarding area A “is part of a broader program that includes investments of 10 billion euros, of which 2 billion have already been spent, to support the country’s international connectivity”, explained the CEO of Aeroporti di Roma (Adr), Marco Troncone.
