According to data from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on June 24, 2021, there will be approximately 275 million people using drugs worldwide in 2020, and this global trend is expected to increase by 11% by 2030. Therefore, in order to combat drug abuse, there is a need for strategic synergies to eradicate drugs at the national, regional or international levels.
On Monday (28/6), Vice President Marouf attended the International Anti-Drug Day commemorative event in video mode, said that the anti-drug war requires coordination and cooperation at the national, regional and international levels, especially in investigative activities, information exchanges and joint operations. The Vice President further stated that according to statistics and facts, most drugs come from abroad, and illegal drugs are smuggled and controlled by international groups in cooperation with domestic groups. For this reason, strict legal actions are required to prevent cross-border and domestic drug trafficking activities.
Regarding our country’s law enforcement, the Vice President explained that there are laws and regulations governing drugs, including Law No. 35 on Drugs in 2009 and Presidential Decree No. 2 of the National Action Plan for the Prevention and Eradication of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in 2020. . This regulation is a form of government’s commitment to implement the constitutional authorization to protect the entire Indonesian nation.
The vice president called for maximum implementation of the regulations. In addition to the cooperation of various departments, institutions and local governments, it also requires the active participation of all components of society to establish and develop excellent human resources. The goal is to prevent people from abuse of drugs, so as to achieve health, smartness, productivity and competitiveness. And there is a national consciousness and noble Indonesian society.
With the increase in community participation, the Vice President assessed that rural communities have great potential and strength in jointly combating drugs. In order to maximize this potential, villages with a safe, favorable and appropriate environment are needed to make communities active and creative to meet the needs of families to raise children and make them the future successors of the country. Therefore, on the same occasion, the Vice President also launched the Desa Bersinar or Desa Bersih Narkoba project initiated by the National Narcotics Control Agency (BNN).
At the end of his speech, the Vice President suggested that BNN take strategic steps to strengthen family safety interventions, intervene in drug-risk areas to make them safe from drug abuse, improve rehabilitation services, and strengthen and expand cooperation networks for drug prevention and eradication at the domestic and international levels. .
