SCARMAGNO

Italvolt, the company involved in the construction of the Gigafactory for the production of lithium-ion batteries for vehicles in the large area of the former Olivetti District of Scarmagno, met with local institutions and confirmed the start of construction works for the plant (designed by Pininfarina) in the first half of 2022 and the start of battery production by 2024.

The company founded and led by Lars Carlstrom, in a statement yesterday, Tuesday 22 June, announced that: “The development process is proceeding according to the schedule announced in February, in fact the presentation of the final gigafactory project is confirmed through the Suap counter (Production unit counter) of Ivrea by the Architecture division of Pininfarina in autumn, in order to start construction work in the first half of 2022. The project in preliminary form has also already been discussed with the Superintendence for Environmental Heritage and architectural works of Piedmont ».

The announcement was made in preview in a meeting last week with the mayors of the territory: Scarmagno, Strambino, Romano Canavese, Mercenasco, Viafre and Ivrea), with the President of Anpci Torino Franco Cominetto and with the President of Confindustria Canavese Patrizia Straw.

The mayor of Scarmagno Adriano Grassino stated: “I am convinced that I am correctly interpreting the thinking of all the mayors who have agreed in stating that we are fully satisfied with the information that Italvolt shared during this meeting, because they confirm that the project is progressing in sent and determined way. It was a clear example of this to learn that the Pininfarina designers have already met the officials of the relevant bodies, whose opinion is binding for the drafting and implementation of the project.

Furthermore, the willingness and attention paid to answering the various questions posed was appreciated by the mayors present and, above all, Italvolt’s willingness to undertake to periodically meet the group for an update on the progress of the project itself. As mayor of Scarmagno I can only be satisfied with the future redevelopment of the former Olivetti industrial area that derives from it and the consequent positive impact it will have on the economic employment situation of the Canavese, the Piedmont Region or in an even wider context. The Municipality of Scarmagno, as far as it is concerned, is ready to do its part ». The president of Confindustra Canavese Patrizia Paglia commented: «The information received during the meeting last week makes us even more confident in the realization of the project. We believe it is a duty that Confindustria Canavese offers its full support to contribute to its realization, for the benefit of the territory and the Canavese, Piedmontese and national industrial chain “

“Italvolt – explains the press release – is in the final stages to conclude an agreement with the industrial partner identified for the definition of the technology that will be used for the production of the batteries and can already count on the collaborations started with American Manganese, which will deal with the recycling of batteries and with Tüv Sud, in charge of guaranteeing ESG compliance in all the activities carried out by Italvolt, not only in reference to the production processes, envisaged in the former Olivetti di Scarmagno district ». Esg are the initials of Environmental, which concerns the impact on the environment and territory; Social, which includes all initiatives with a social impact; Governance, which concerns more internal aspects of the company and its administration
