Letter to the Region and to the Piedmontese Mobility Agency. On June 29, blitz in the warehouse: “It seems to be in a junkyard”

Local politics strikes a blow on the issue of the 30% summer cut on bus rides in Ivrea and the conurbation, as requested by the CGIL, CISL and UIL unions in a joint note. The commissioner Giuliano Balzola denounces in a hard letter the state of the Gtt deposit in Ivrea and asks to activate all the penalties foreseen for the daily skip races.

The certified e-mail left yesterday around 6.20 pm, directed to the inboxes of the regional councilor for transport Marco Gabusi, the president and director of the Piedmontese mobility agency Licia Nigrogno and Cesare Paonessa. It is also addressed to the director of Gtt Giovanni Rabino and to the mayors of the municipalities of the Eporediese for information. It contains dozens of reports of inefficiencies by citizens and newspaper articles of which, Balzola emphasizes, “we have always given immediate communication to GTT and rarely have replies been received”. Then the commissioner decided to go personally to the GTT depot on 29 June. “I found myself – he writes – in front of a real cemetery of vehicles, including some with the” out of service “signs displayed: the feeling was that of being in a car wreck and not in the depot of a ‘public road transport company’. In addition to the description of the visit, the commissioner explains that he has ascertained that for about three months five men have been moved from the conurbation to extra-urban transport, thus causing “a shortage of at least 30 trips a day to the area”. In the talks with Balzola, the Mobility Agency has guaranteed that this year there will be only the normal summer rescheduling of timetables and that GTT has not made any request for changes. According to what appears, however, the problem is the shifts. Translated: the race remains scheduled on time, but if there are no men to carry it out, it inevitably jumps. Balzola also reminds his interlocutors of the costs of the conurbation, which this year are around two million euros, of which 200 thousand are borne by the municipality of Ivrea alone.

The regional councilor of the Democratic Party, Alberto Avetta, also spoke on the subject, announcing a question to the council. “I share and understand – writes Avetta – the disappointment expressed by the local unions, CGIL, CISL and UIL, because these cuts cast a worrying shadow on the future of public transport in this part of Piedmont, especially in the unfortunate event that they were not” seasonal ”but become“ structural ”. We will ensure that all races are resumed in September ».

Avetta also recalls the promises of the past: “The proposals for the development of local public transport, presented precisely in Ivrea in February 2020, have remained a dead letter to this day, despite the fact that the funds of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan represent an unmissable opportunity for the renewal of the circulating bus fleet. In this delicate post-Covid-19 recovery phase, cuts of this type do nothing but incentivize citizens in the use of private vehicles, with the consequences on air quality and public health that we know well ».
