Ivrea. Degraded coverage at the Selina Lesca school, 300 thousand euros are needed

The Municipality, ready to take out a mortgage, would be the first. Seismic adaptation works are also required

IVREA. After the San Michele kindergarten, where all the windows will be replaced by the end of the year, the attention of the Municipality is now focused on the primary Selina Lesca. The Torre Balfredo building presents an advanced state of decay of the roof and requires seismic adaptation works. In recent days, 49 thousand euros have arrived in the municipal coffers from a ministerial announcement that will be used for planning. The assignment will be given by the end of this year. But then, according to the project drawn up by the technical office, 300 thousand euros will be needed to give substance to the work that the administrators want to carry out by 2022.

«We will certainly try to find the necessary funds from other calls as well as for the design – explains Deputy Mayor Elisabetta Piccoli -. If this path is not viable, we will take out a mortgage. Since we took office we have never resorted to this tool, but considering that some mortgages will expire shortly here, we can safely ask the banks for that amount. The objective of redeveloping the Selina Lesca school is a priority ».

In detail, the works concern the renovation of the roof and at the same time a requalification of the building from a seismic point of view, making it safer for users. This last aspect will be obtained with a consolidation of the building box through reinforced plaster on the perimeter edges and the creation of a continuous perimeter concrete curb to support the new roof.

In the last two years the Torre Balfredo building has undergone two interventions; a first concerning the replacement of windows (100 thousand euros) and a second on false ceilings (40 thousand euros, summer 2020). These were heavy brick ceilings, covering the classrooms on the ground floor, similar to those found in the premises of the former Valcalcino barracks (cleared in mid-September). The structures, after a specific survey, were considered dangerous as their heaviness could represent a serious criticality even in the case of detachment of a single slope with triggering of chain reactions with consequent collapse of the entire brick floor.
