IVREA

The news of the sudden death of Ornella Biancolli, a few days before her sixty-ninth birthday, which took place last Sunday at the hospital where she had been hospitalized for the worsening of a series of pathologies that had long since weakened her health state.

A well-known person in the city, the ever-present companion of the Dragon, born Dario Regalio, one of the founders of the Black Panther team of orange throwers, Ornella Biancolli has kept her contagious enthusiasm intact until the last moment, the desire to do always addressed to a thousand projects and, above all, the love for her partner around whom the attention and primary interests of her daily life revolved.

Originally from the province of Turin, she was Ivrea by adoption from time immemorial. Graduated from the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts, in 1976 she graduated in Architecture at the Polytechnic, settled in Ivrea at the end of the 1980s and was immediately discovered and “enlisted” by that talent scout of the fun and historical re-enactment that was Costantino Garda who had made her his personal set designer, as well as the playmate and coordinator of many exciting adventures in costume with which they contributed to enhancing the Ivrea carnival, the medieval Peacock holidays and many events not only locally, in which they honorably made known the city of Ivrea and its traditions.

Always with her Dragon beside her, she was one of the founders of the Domus Potestatis Yporegiae, a real court of ladies and knights around Constantine, Carnival Podestà par excellence, later renamed Domus Nobilitatis Yporegiae, of which Garda was keen to specify that “It was not a folkloric group, but a real house with celebratory functions of history”. Costantino died prematurely, Ornella and Dario continued their commitment in the field of re-enactments, founding the historical group Porta Leonis, complete with an ensemble of dancers, called La Moresca, specialized in dances from 1300 to 1600. In 2008, Porta Leonis he took part in the documentary film Michelangelo revealed, interpreting the scenes shot in the Candelo shelter and in a deconsecrated church in Carpignano Sesia. With their sumptuous costumes – their wardrobe was stocked with them, almost a theatrical tailoring – Ornella and Dario paraded until the last edition of the Carnival, in 2020, then interrupted by a pandemic. Not only re-enactments, however: for many years Ornella Biancolli was, in fact, an appreciated teacher of artistic subjects at Uni3 in Ivrea, where she also held courses in glass and ceramic decoration, always very popular. The void he leaves today in his Dragon and in their beloved dogs, affectionately called Topo Bassotto and Princess Melissa, is immense, and there are many people, friends and acquaintances, who, in this moment of pain, are clinging to Dario in his memory .

The funeral on Wednesday 25, at 10, in the church of the Sacred Heart.
