A color created ad hoc, symbiosis green, a psychologically relaxing gray-green peat. Nine panels by American artist Victor Kastelic with floral motifs, some of which are retro-illuminating, positioned in waiting rooms, corridors, reception areas and operational areas. The paintings can light up when people pass or stop, giving a feeling of a living space.

These are some of the novelties of the new set-up of the obstetrics and gynecology department of the Ivrea hospital, inaugurated last Friday. “The new set-up project – explains Fabrizio Bogliatto, director of the obstetrics and gynecology complex of Ivrea and of the maternal-infant department of the ASL / To4 – is called Symbiosis and represents a new way of understanding humanization within the structures sanitary. It is a project supported thanks to a generous donation from a family from Ivrea who love art and believed in this initiative. Symbiosis is conceived in collaboration with the Collaborative environments design studio of the painter Victor Kastelic and the architect Elena Alutto ». “We have decided to focus on the maternal-infant area – he adds -. The uniqueness of the birth event and the care of mother and child is fundamental to welcome a new life and structure a positive socio-cultural imprinting ». In the common areas, Symbiosis provides for the diffusion of aromas with essential oils. Through professional diffusers, the fragrance is constantly checked which helps to reduce the level of stress and create well-being. Also in the common areas, a cable radio system plays classical music pieces selected through a study carried out in collaboration with the Niccolò Paganini Conservatory of Genoa. The songs retrace the circadian rhythms and are played at a frequency of 432 Hz, in line with the earth’s harmonic frequencies.

The Symbiosis project inaugurated on Friday had a prologue in 2019, with the setting up of the Aurora Room thanks to a donation from the Soropstimist club. It is a room with technical furniture, but set up as if it were a local home for a birth in the hospital as if it were your home.

«In Italy – emphasizes Bogliatto – too often pregnancy and childbirth are highly medicalized moments. We have decided to create a department here, in Ivrea, that puts the well-being of the individual at the center. And what better ally of medicine than art? ». Bogliatto aims to introduce pain-free childbirth in the Ivrea ward by spring with epidural anesthesia. “We have proceeded with the training – he says – and we are ready to leave by spring”.

To date, 127 children were born in midwifery in Ivrea in 2021, 651 in 2020. At the inauguration, Friday, in the hospital ward, the Lega deputy Alessandro Giglio Vigna participated with the councilors, also from the Lega, Andrea Cane , Mauro Fava and Claudio Leone, the director of the Pd Alberto Avetta, the mayor Stefano Sertoli and a representative of the management. «The beauty and pleasantness of the environments – says Luigi Vercellino, commissioner Asl / To4 – testify to the desire to welcome the assisted people in a holistic way. Thanks go to private citizens who, with their donations, have made it possible to create this symbiosis between art and a place of care ». –
