Ivrea. Road revolution in Piazza Gioberti: one way up and maxi pedestrian area

by admin

The laying of new signs and curbs starts on Monday. Change the exit from via Arduino, only pedestrians in piazza Caduti dei lager

IVREA. Ten days and Piazza Gioberti, otherwise known as Piazza Maretta, will change face with the new road system. Between signage and adjustments on roadside artifacts, the works will begin today, Monday, here as in the other points involved in a redevelopment project aimed at facilitating meeting places (outdoor areas and street furniture) and discouraging the car in favor of a greater pedestrianization of the heart of Ivrea.

The other points are piazza Caduti dei lager (along the alley connecting Corso Cavour and via Arduino) and piazza Santa Marta, already pedestrianized. The “Piazza Gioberti package”, certainly the part of the project that will most affect the habits of traders and users of the center, also brings with it novelties for via Guarnotta (which becomes one-way up, no longer being able to turn round towards piazza Borgoglio) and the exit from via Arduino onto piazza Gioberti, where it will no longer be possible to turn left but only right onto corso Garibaldi.

“We hope to discourage also the unregulated parking lots that are often seen in the center of the square – says Paolo Molinario, commander of the Ivrea local police -. We too will have to do our part, but I must say that the news will greatly influence behavior ». In summary: leaving the Ponte Vecchio on the right, you will enter a completely one-way street Guarnotta; at the Osteria San Maurizio (therefore immediately at the corner of the street) a permanent rise will be installed with the function of a fixed terrace, but sufficient space will be left for the passage of a row of vehicles (currently on full-speed outdoor days via Guarnotta at that point is completely occupied by tables and access from the Borghetto is prevented). The direction of travel will lead up, keeping the car on the right side only.

The side of via Guarnotta that runs alongside the Caffè Gioberti and other small shops, on the other hand, will become pedestrianized through an extension of the central traffic divider cap today used as an improvised parking space. Those arriving from the south will find a stop at via Arduino, from which it will be the right of way for the only possible turn (the one on the right towards Corso Garibaldi). The all will make it possible to obtain three new herringbone parking spaces and move the stall reserved for the disabled.

In Piazza Caduti dei lager, already within the Ztl, total pedestrianization as requested by the residents, with space for dehors and benches; three parking spaces will be eliminated and a loading-unloading system will be added. Finally, Piazza Santa Marta will formalize the ban on parking with the inclusion of a single stall for loading-unloading and residents.
