The administration: «Contacts with the prefecture and voluntary and assistance organizations of the territory have already started». Sertoli and four other municipalities in the Turin area are hoping for a meeting with the prefect to take stock of the situation

The Municipality of Ivrea provides three apartments as emergency housing for Afghan refugees. The municipal administration has made contact with the prefecture of Turin which, together with the other prefectures, has the task of organizing the first reception of Afghan citizens who, thanks to the Aquila Omnia airlift, have been transferred to Italy with their family members for days. to other people deemed at risk of persecution, to offer full cooperation and availability. A note from the municipal administration of Ivrea also explains that contacts have been made with some voluntary and assistance organizations active in the area to check the status of the activities in progress. And he explains: “In a situation of this kind, Afghans are certainly political refugees, a very different status from that of irregular and / or economic migrant. Having said that, it is unthinkable that only Italy and the Italian municipalities can accommodate thousands of Afghan refugees, considering that in recent months the landings of economic migrants have already multiplied. It is therefore absolutely necessary that there is an international direction to save as many people as possible from the Taliban regime, in particular women and children, by hosting them in the various Western nations. Everyone must do their part and not leave the burden of welcoming the usual countries to the usual countries ”.

The first citizens Ivana Gaveglio, Stefano Sertoli, Cinzia Maria Bosso, Andrea Tragaioli and Fabio Giulivi, with a joint note, guaranteed their commitment: “A single Municipality cannot think of solving an international crisis but our willingness is total to collaborate with the Government that is working to save lives through the humanitarian corridors, with the Prefectures in the area and with a fundamental control room of the Piedmont Region and the Anci ». The mayors are hoping for a meeting with the refetto so that they can have an updated picture of the situation. “At this moment we do not need demagogic actions but a coordinated aid plan that can bring real relief to a population tormented by the return to power of the Taliban: the municipalities will not hold back”.
