Jeep Wrangler, only the 4xe plug-in hybrid remains on the list

by admin

From now on, the iconic Wrangler will be available in the price list with only the rechargeable hybrid engine. Off with petrol and diesel engines. A sign of the changing times and a window on the future of the Jeep brand, between tradition and electrification. As well as a commercial choice induced by the market itself, given that in the last six months more than 70% of the Wranglers purchased in Italy were 4xe plug-in hybrids. Furthermore, Jeep aims to sell 70% of the range globally with an electrified powertrain option by 2025.

With the 2022 model year of the Wrangler also arrives the windshield in Gorilla Glass – standard on the “Rubicon” version and on request on the “Sahara” one -, which uses the same chemical strengthening technology of mobile phone screens, which makes the windshield up to a three times more resistant to potential nicks, cracks and fractures caused by stones and debris when driving off-road. While for those who love to drive in the open there is the new roof option with folding soft top “Sunrider Flip Top”: it consists of a soft top portion above the front seats and a hard top that extends over the rest of the roof.

The rechargeable hybrid engine delivers up to 380 hp of maximum power and an engine torque of 637 Nm. Good numbers for a sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.4 seconds. In addition, the Wrangler 4xe can travel around 50 kilometers in 100% electric driving mode. To fill the battery with electrons, on the other hand, it only takes 3 hours of charging using a 7.4 kWh electricity source. The propulsion system of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe combines two electric motors, a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

For Jeep, “this configuration allows the mechanics of the Trail Rated certified Jeep Wrangler to be maintained unchanged, which includes, depending on the trim level, two advanced full time active on demand four-wheel drive systems – Selec-Trac or Rock-Trac, Dana axles next-generation, electric Tru-Lock front and rear differential locks, Trac-Lok limited slip differential and electrically disconnect front stabilizer bar ”. In other words, the vehicle’s famous off-road capabilities are confirmed, indeed amplified; with the plus of being able to drive with four-wheel drive in 100% electric mode, with zero exhaust emissions.
