Jimunai, Xinjiang: The Fragrant Smell of Mutton at the Winter Animal Husbandry Cultural Tourism Festival

The picturesque county of Jimunai in Xinjiang, located on the northern border of China, recently hosted the 5th Savur Winter Pastoral Cultural Tourism Festival and the 4th Savur Cauldron Mutton Festival. The event took place in the stunning surroundings of Savur Mountain, showcasing the rich heritage of the region.

Visitors were treated to a spectacular display of ethnic songs, dances, and traditional sports competitions, highlighting the unique culture of Xinjiang. Equestrian performances such as girl chasing and wrestling, as well as the auction of a 141-kilogram head sheep, added to the festive atmosphere.

One tourist, Yang Maoxiang from Fujian, expressed his delight at experiencing such an event for the first time, noting the vibrant atmosphere and the richness of the cultural offerings.

The festival also featured a traditional Kazakh wedding performance, where attendees could immerse themselves in the romantic and enthusiastic celebrations. From catching sheep to tasting the delicious mutton cooked in the big pot, visitors were able to fully experience the cultural charm of Jimunai.

Ji Songhai, a local official, highlighted the positive impact of the festival on tourism and the local economy, with increased income for farmers and herdsmen. Chen Mingli, general manager of a local travel agency, emphasized the growing interest in Jimunai’s tourism resources and the dedication to providing top-quality services to visitors.

Looking ahead, Jimunai aims to further develop its tourism infrastructure and promote cross-border tourism initiatives to boost the industry. The county invites travelers from across the country to explore its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage during the upcoming flower season in June.
