Judge grants the extradition of David Elías Campbell

Honduras – The leader of the notorious Mara Salvatrucha gang, David Elías Campbell, also known as “Old Dan”, will be extradited to the United States after being acquitted in Honduras.

Campbell, who was accused of organized crime, drug trafficking, murder, and possession of illegal weapons, was officially sanctioned by the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (Ofac). The indictment also implicated Yulan Adonay Archaga Carías, aka Alexander Mendoza or “Porky”, in establishing businesses to launder the gang’s drug profits.

According to the Ofac sanction, Campbell and El Porky were deeply involved in drug trafficking, violence, murder, extortion, and money laundering. The two used businesses they owned or controlled to launder drug proceeds, including through banks in the United States.

Campbell’s extradition is imminent, as El Porky is currently a fugitive after being released during a court hearing in El Progreso, Yoro, in February 2020. Both individuals are facing serious charges in the United States and are wanted for their alleged criminal activities.

The extradition of Campbell and El Porky highlights the ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and drug trafficking in Honduras and the wider region. Authorities are working together to ensure that those responsible for such crimes are brought to justice and held accountable for their actions.
