SAN VITO. The Croda Marcora is calming down. There were rock and debris discharges yesterday too, following the collapse of Punta dei Ross on Saturday afternoon, but less numerous and even less. Above San Vito, the most guarded area remains the pinnacle next to it, which is undermined by a deep fracture and seems destined to collapse. Who knows when. After the Sunday helicopter mission of the Region, with the geologists Mariani and Bassani, and the canceled one by the Venice fire brigade, a drone could be sent up there, in order to continue the necessary monitoring of a rock mass estimated at about 20 thousand meters. cubes.

Less than half of the one that has already collapsed and stops very high up, so there are no dangers for the inhabitants of the Chiapuzza hamlet, much less for the Alemagna state road 51, as the safety channels are still clean and ready to make their craft, should it be necessary. A meeting between the Region and the Province was scheduled for yesterday, to take stock of the situation and begin to decide the strategy to follow. The Soil Defense structure met with the Territory and agro-forestry systems department of the University of Padua and it was agreed to postpone the surveys until the collapses are over, in order to avoid possible errors: “I am in contact with the mayor of San Vito, Emanuele Caruzzo and, at the moment, the situation is calm and under control “, explains Massimo Bortoluzzi of the Province,” an initial evaluation was made together with Tesaf and we agree with Professor Gregoretti to move the findings to when the small gaps will be over ».

The second step is already foreseen: “Once we have the results of the surveys in hand, thanks to the Lidar system that involves the use of a drone, we can proceed with the modeling, that is a technical simulation of the weather precipitation and of how much material it could start moving in case of heavy rain. Only with this system, it is possible to study the type of intervention and how to organize it ».

Province and Region agree and work together: “The first landslide stopped at the top and we cannot predict if and when the other spire will collapse”, observes the commissioner Gianpaolo Bottacin, “there could be problems, if something were to go down further downstream due to bad weather ».

But for now there are no dangers: «We don’t see any problems», confirms Bortoluzzi, «neither for the houses nor for the inhabitants. It remains to be seen whether there is a risk of some mudslides on the Alemagna in the event of heavy rains, if at least part of the collapsed material were dragged or pushed towards San Vito ».
