The collapse of a rock dihedral in Vallon dei Ross, on Marcora, has poured thousands of cubic meters of material downstream
SAN VITO. The collapse of a large rock dihedral in the Vallon dei Ross on Mount Marcora, above San Vito, caused thousands of cubic meters of material to descend towards the valley. The massive landslide unleashed a large cloud of dust that reached the town.
The collapse took place around 6.30 pm and there was no damage to people or to the town of Chiapuzza, the village below. Civil protection, mountain rescue volunteers and carabinieri mobilized together with the mayor Emanuele Caruzzo for the first checks, which gave negative results. The area is crossed by a path, however little used in this period.
The collapse was seen and resumed by many people who, thanks to the beautiful sunny day, were in the open at that moment and witnessed the fall of the material at high altitude and the formation of the imposing cloud of dust.
