Locana, the Orco Valley hatchery will save fish and fishing

“Bureaucracy suffocates our sport and local tourism” The mayor of Ronco: “Now find a point of balance”

The bureaucracy has placed yet another obstacle in what has now become an ordeal for the world of sport fishing, that of the repopulation of streams. After two years of battles, disputes and misunderstandings dictated by incompetence and too many political interference, the green light has finally been obtained to repopulate the mountain waterways with sterile rainbow trout in derogation of the ministerial decree which only allows the introduction of marmorate, the only (for the legislator) native species.

Everything is ready: Municipalities, such as Locana and associations of sport fishermen, had already purchased from the farms (and at unsolved prices) quintals of darting salmonids of American origin but unable to reproduce. Then the twist. Metropolitan city stumbled on stamped papers, certified e-mails and stamps and the fish remained in the trucks because if placed without a permit they would have cost heavy fines (up to 2 thousand euros) and criminal charges for environmental pollution.

It is hoped to solve the problem this weekend “but by now we expect everything – say the sport fishermen – they are stifling our sport and local tourism” to which the managing director of Ambiente, flora and fauna responds with firmness and absolute clarity. from Metropolitan City, Gianfranco Guerrini: «Our institution is alongside the fishermen and we work with them and for their passion. We return to fishing in the streams and respecting all the rules. It is a win. Because we will also be the only province to start the season late but we are also the only one that does it respecting the national provisions to the letter ».

Then there is a second piece of good news. The Locana hatchery is one of the few that can boast, thanks to the extraordinary work of the Valley Council, a fair production of 98% pure marmorata fry. This is confirmed by the historian and expert fishing warden and Fipsas provincial manager, Aurelio Vacca: «These fry will save the fish ecosystem and sport fishing. It will take time but they are the future. Extraordinary fish that will repopulate the streams in compliance with the fishing plan ».

Closes the mayor of Ronco, Lorenzo Giacomino, for months on the hottest front of the battle to find solutions: «The time has come to find a point of balance between new rules and traditions. The rules must be respected and the obstacle will be overcome because the wall against the wall does not do anyone’s good. We in Ronco are ready to make tenders to entrust our beautiful reserves that will return to be repopulated by trout and fishermen. And the virtuous driving force of niche tourism will be revived ». For the record, sport fishing, for a small mountain town like Ronco, represents a turnover (rent stretches of streams, sale of fishing vouchers, purchase of trout for entry, trade and local catering) almost 100 thousand euros a year. –
