Logistics – Giovanni De Mauro

by admin

On May 27, in front of the TNT-Fedex of San Giuliano Milanese, a group of workers of the Si Cobas union who was protesting against the closure of the Piacenza hub was attacked with clubs and tasers by private guards hired by the company.

On 10 June, in Tavazzano con Villavesco, in the province of Lodi, a garrison of workers organized to protest the dismissals decided by a company working for Fedex was attacked, again with sticks and tasers, by private guards. In the videos, the attackers are seen acting undisturbed in front of the police officers who assist without intervening. Nine workers injured, including Abdelhamid Elazab, of the Piacenza Fedex and member of the Si Cobas union, shot in the head.

On 18 June, during a garrison in front of the Lidl logistics office in Biandrate, in the province of Novara, a trade unionist was hit by a truck and killed. His name was Adil Belakhdim, he was 37 years old and was born in El Jadida, Morocco.

He had come to study in Italy and to pay for his studies he had started working in logistics, that is, the sector that deals with the storage, transport and delivery of goods. It is a sector that grew a lot during the pandemic and is worth about 9 percent of Italy’s GDP. Belakhdim lived in Vizzolo Predabissi with his wife, Lucia Marzocca, and two children aged 4 and 6.

Interviewed by Marco Imarisio in Corriere della Sera, a friend of Belakhdim said: “Now I’ll tell you what Adil died for. He died because he thought that you cannot live like this for 850 euros a month, without protection, without private life, because the shifts are always moved at the last moment, the holidays are not decided by you but the area manager, if you ask for permission to go to pick up your child from school they leave you at home for a week in detention, and the work always lasts 13 hours instead of eight, with overtime always halved and even at night you receive messages on your phone with the order to be in stock at dawn. He died because he believed it was right to stand in front of those gates ”.
