‘Los Gancheros’ fall for robberies at ATMs in Bogotá

The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation managed to prosecute four alleged members of the criminal organization ‘Los Gancheros’, which would be involved in several robberies of ATM users located in Bogotá and surrounding municipalities.

They are Juan Pablo Izquierdo Gil, Jaime Alejandro Martínez Quevedo, Segundo Evangelista Rubiano Vargas and Yesid Melo González, who were captured in proceedings carried out by the CTI, with the support of units of the 13th Brigade of the National Army.

These men, apparently, installed hooks in the money dispensers to prevent the bills from coming out. In this way, people could not make the withdrawals and went out to look for help. That moment was taken advantage of by ‘Los Gancheros’ to enter the cubicles and take the trapped sums.

The Prosecutor’s Office accredited 26 different events in which the criminal structure altered ATMs and managed to appropriate more than 1,000 million pesos.

For these events, a prosecutor from the Bogotá Section charged the detainees with the crimes of conspiracy to commit a crime and theft by computer means.

Those investigated did not accept the charges and must comply with a custodial measure in a prison.
