MAIORI – Massive participation of citizens in the event ‘Maiori calls those who love’, which took place yesterday morning in the coastal town, organized by the Committee for the Protection of the Amalfi Coast, to say ‘no’ to the purifier. Hundreds gathered on the seafront to listen and applaud the speeches of politicians and private citizens who explained the reasons why the project, which involves the construction of a purification plant in the state property, would represent a serious danger for the community. . Among these, the honorable member of Liberi e Uguali Federico Conte: “I invite the administrations of the rest of the Amalfi Coast not to be indifferent, because this little environmental monster is not just a problem in Maiori”. The debate focused mainly on two issues: the strictly environmental one and the possible repercussions on tourism, a sector to which the Divina owes all its fortune. The doubts raised are related to the damage that would cause a possible malfunction of the system and to what extent the odors emitted by the same can damage the quality of the welcome of visitors.
«The Amalfi Coast is a World Heritage Site and we cannot remember it only when it landslide. The environment is sacred and must be respected ”, these are the words of the honorable member of the 5 Star Movement Anna Bilotti. Also present were the representatives of the minorities with Salvatore Della Pace and Elvira D’Amato who raised the problem of procedures, defined as incorrect. The two councilors complained about the lack of communication by the mayor Antonio Capone on the details of the project. Mario Civale, former mayor of Maiori, advised the current mayor of the coastal town to «retrace his steps. The position of Senator Luisa Angrisani is also very clear: «The citizens are the first witnesses of the territory and we must listen to them. The coast does not deserve this destruction ». Imma Santomauro, representative of the ‘Cambiamo Rotta’ group, emphasized a delicate issue: that of the hamlets.
«We believe that this purifier is the coup de grace for the hamlets. We believe that this work is not strategic at all, but has an impact on the biodiversity of the State Property ». Mayor Capone’s reply was not long in coming. Yesterday afternoon he made it known that he was ready for dialogue with all the parties involved: “We will respond to the observations and concerns that have emerged, as we are already doing with citizens alarmed by catastrophic reconstructions – underlines Capone – I also acknowledge that I have not been invited as mayor to this event with all due respect to those who, in the Committee, make participatory democracy their flag ».
