SALERNO. The number one of the Region attacks again, pointing the finger at the highest state institutions engaged in the fight against Covid “guilty” of having given the green light to an “abandonment” of the mask. The offices of Palazzo Santa Lucia throw water on the fire, underlining that the ordinances of the Government and the Region are very similar. And, ultimately, at the local level they try to find the best way to initiate checks. In the “day one” of an Italy “without a mask”, the Dpi outdoors remain mandatory in Campania and the controversies become increasingly hot. The governor Vincenzo De Luca, in fact, did not use soft words when commenting on his decision not to send the protective device to the archive: “This thing about the masks has become like a battle of idiotic civilizations, you have removed an element of protection for you, for your children and for your family ”, the words of the former mayor of Salerno at the inauguration of a new intensive care unit at the Policlinico Vanvitelli. “Here in Naples – he says – to tell the truth half already didn’t wear the mask, the only thing missing was that we made the use not compulsory”, the fire message which, then, focused on the slowdowns of the vaccination campaign and on the modalities of communication adopted by the commissioner for the Covid emergency, General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, and by the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, which were defined as “insane and capable of making thousands of Italians lose confidence”. From this point, therefore, De Luca asks for their resignations. Then, from the Crisis Unit, the clarification on the ordinance arrived; the organ of Palazzo Santa Lucia, in fact, underlines that “the regional and national ordinances indicate the same obligations but are written in a different way”. The latest provisions ended up in the crosshairs of Valentino Grant, MEP and regional secretary of the League: “After the obligation to wear masks outdoors, now the stop to take away drinks from 10 pm to 6 am: De Luca’s choices border on the absurd and hit the merchants and all consumers. While Italy and Europe gradually reopen and embrace normality, the Campania Region slaps families and businesses in the face. It is an incomprehensible attitude ».
A chaos that inevitably undermines the local situation as well. The question of masks will be one of the topics at the center of the Committee for public order and security which will also be held in the Prefecture to discuss the violent nightlife and the episodes that have occurred in recent weeks, in particular between Salerno and Scafati. “There is a need for attention on certain squares, important controls also in the white zone”, the diktat of the prefect Francesco Russo on the eve of the meeting which will also see the participation of the mayors Vincenzo Napoli and Cristoforo Salvati. Russo, however, focuses on how widespread the checks in the white area can be: «The numbers of checks are high, many people, businesses and vehicles have been checked. There was also a small change in the device – reveals the prefect – in some particularly sensitive points and squares in Salerno there was a permanent presence on the part of the police forces. It is evident that our main intent was not only to control, to respect certain styles of behavior but above all to avoid bad episodes that have recently occurred “.
Eyes on the nightlife, therefore, but the numbers of forces involved should remain the same, the arrangement will probably change, this is what transpires from Piazza Amendola. “We are talking about numbers but the efforts have been made for about a year and a half, they were made even earlier by the police, it is remarkable with a strong involvement by the municipal police, a continuous study of what may be the better styles of territorial control ”, explains Russo. “It is good for us to arrange them on the field, covering the situations that may occur, so far this approach has led us to results”. Now, however, given the regional ordinance, it will be necessary to maintain high controls also on the use of Dpi: it will be necessary to organize also because, at the moment, there is no provision for the implementation of the forces in the field.
Inevitably, the service to be placed in the white area will also be examined on the table, eyes are focused on the squares of the nightlife. “I think that the first weekend in the white zone has basically gone well, we talked about it with the Prefect, we asked for and obtained a table for safety”, declared the mayor of Salerno. “We must systematize with all our strength to ensure that there is a controlled nightlife with regard to the transgressions and excesses that could possibly occur and reflect on the latest criminal episodes that have occurred in the city”.
