The President of the Republic spoke about the role of territorial autonomies in the pandemic and in future planning
The Quirinal Palace hosted a meeting on Thursday between the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and the presidents of the Regions and autonomous Provinces.
In his speech, the head of state underlined how “institutional pluralism, territorial and social autonomies, which reflect, respecting it, the precious articulation of our country, have been confirmed as founding values of the Republic, capable of ensuring its strength and effectiveness, together to the consent of citizens “.
Speaking of the pandemic and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, Mattarella urged the Government, Parliament, Regions, Municipalities, Provinces to do “each one their own part. We are in the first act. In the first legislative interventions for the implementation of the NRP – I am thinking in particular of those relating to organization and planning – the involvement of the Regions was recorded and this element represents an effective criterion for future choices as well ».
“Fundamental – he added – will also be the contribution of the Municipalities: the Regions can be the seat of coordination that will require, on the part of all local authorities, listening and mediation skills in compliance with the different institutional roles, with the objective of making the need for simplification, speed and efficiency prevail in the implementation of interventions ».
The President of the Region Erik Lavevaz was present at the meeting at the Quirinale. «It is important – commented Lavevaz – that President Mattarella wanted to meet directly the Presidents of the Region and Autonomous Provinces: these many months of emergency have underlined the centrality of the regional system, in its complexity and diversity. It is evident that real collaboration between central and local administrations is indispensable: even in the most delicate moments, a constructive balance must be found, so that the institutions can enrich themselves in comparison and dialogue ».
