Mattarella on no Green Pass risks: “The unscientific theories of a few cannot prevail”

«The restart is a new road and we must follow it with determination and hope as in the post-war period, with the contribution of forces and people. We can have confidence in ourselves because we have faced a very tough test. The few who want to make their anti-scientific theories prevail, with sometimes senseless violence. The Italians have shown responsibility. Research and vaccines have given us back spaces of freedom and the possibility of taking our lives back into our hands ». President Sergio Mattarella said this when speaking to the Cavalieri del Lavoro, and warned against anti-scientific positions that can undermine public health and confidence in the country’s economic recovery.

Mattarella: “The anti-scientific theories of a few cannot prevail over vaccines”

“The few who want, noisily, to impose their anti-scientific theories, which sometimes give vent to senseless violence, cannot prevail, even with the devastation of the centers where our fellow citizens go to be vaccinated and escape the danger of the virus The President of the Republic reflected.

The Covid emergency – from which one can only get up with vaccines and measures such as the Green Pass – has heavily affected the economy, but now there is the chance to restart and the first signs are seen. From this point of view, the head of state still calls for caution, and responsible behavior, because “the virus is not yet defeated.” By doing so, you can start again. «Only by growing together will we grow more – said the head of state – it is a question of the constitutional affirmation of work. Progress is possible and lasting only if it involves the whole of society. It is necessary to have the courage to adapt the difficult conditions of a society in which inequalities have increased. Work must be put back to the center and this is the proof of a mature country».

From this point of view, “the PNRR is a great opportunity that we cannot miss». «The restart it is a new road and we must follow it with determination and hope, as in the postwar period when the reconstruction began from the rubble“. “Our economy is growing at an encouraging pace, above the average of other European countries. In parallel with the progress of the vaccination campaign which is more successful in Italy than elsewhere », Mattarella observed. «We need to go beyond the favorable economic situation and lay the foundations for a structural improvement of networks, production factors and services. We discount ancient delays ».

Mattarella, in full harmony with the words of Mario Draghi, speaks of the “alliance of generations”: “The alliance between the generations is a condition for getting out of the stalemate that the country has experienced. It is precisely the profound changes that have taken place in society – demographic, cultural, even anthropological – that force us to quickly heal those fractures that risk making us retreat. The marginality of part of the world of young people has always been a reason for the weakening of societies and economies: in such an accelerated period of innovation, such as the current one, it would be an even more unbearable impairment. We must not allow it ». The head of state insists on the attention that must be given to young people: their future “is identified with that of the Republic. They are the protagonists of a season in the country, of the path that can make the restart a phase of further progress. It is precisely the profound changes that have taken place in society that force us to heal well and quickly those fractures that risk making us retreat, disperse our strengths, impoverish the most precious capital we have, human capital ».
