POZZUOLO DEL FRIULI. Rizzani de Eccher will build the longest railway bridge in the Baltic states. In fact, works are continuing to build the Rail Baltica section in Lithuania. The aim of the entire work is to create a passenger and freight transport service, and to improve rail links between central and northern Europe.

Ltg Infra, the company responsible for carrying out the project, following the second phase of the tender, selected the Friulian company to build the railway bridge over the Neris river, near Jonava. It will be over 1.5 kilometers long.

Rail Baltica is the largest railway infrastructure project in the history of the Baltic states, which will provide a double-track electrified European railway line, connecting Warsaw, Kaunas, Riga and Tallinn.

The total length of Rail Baltica in the Baltic states is 870 kilometers, with 392 kilometers in Lithuania, 265 kilometers in Latvia and 213 kilometers in Estonia. It is one of the priority projects of the European Union of Trans-European Transport Networks (Ten-T), with an investment of 5.8 billion euros. “We are honored and proud to receive the contract that will allow us to bring all our engineering and bridge construction skills and experiences into an important and challenging project for Lithuania’s railway infrastructure network,” says Franco Alzetta, CEO of the Group. In addition to the construction of the bridge, the Pozzuolo del Friuli group will also carry out landscaping, install sound-absorbing barriers, rebuild the water drainage systems. The bridge will in fact cross the Natura 2000 site of the European ecological network and particular attention is required to protect the environment.

In order to avoid any impact on Neris biodiversity, no interventions will be carried out in the river protection zone during fish migration and spawning. In addition, the bridge supports, up to 150 meters high, will not be built in the water, to allow biodiversity in the river and adjacent areas.
