Maxi scam to a restaurateur, a 50-year-old from Aosta Valley investigated

by admin

He had had 100,000 euros delivered in cash for a non-existent highly profitable financial operation

The Aosta police recovered about 74 thousand euros in cash kept by a fifty-year-old from Aosta inside his home. The man is under investigation for aggravated fraud: that money would belong to a restaurateur victim of a maxi scam.

According to what emerged from the investigations carried out by the anti-robbery section of the Flying Squad, the 50-year-old defrauded the restaurateur by convincing him to get 100,000 euros in cash for a phantom international financial transaction. The restaurateur, in difficulty due to the restrictions due to the health emergency, had accepted thanks to the prospect of important earnings and the belief that he was dealing with an international finance expert in contact with important bankers and managers. In fact, the fifty-year-old had become a regular customer of the place and spared no expense, showing a high standard of living supported, according to him, by the earnings obtained thanks to the right “tips” in the financial field. In this way, the fifty-year-old was able to establish a relationship of trust with the owner of the restaurant until he was given the important sum in cash.

The maxi scam came to light when the restaurateur, tired of the inconclusive explanations on the progress of the investment, turned to the Aosta Police Headquarters to report the incident. Thanks to an emergency home search, the police found about 74 thousand euros hidden inside jars, DVDs, various containers and bags, immediately seized.

From the investigation of the operation called “La stangata” it emerged that the fifty-year-old had also made contact with other entrepreneurs in an attempt to implement other similar scams.
