Persecutory acts against the former, a municipal employee
(ANSA) – ANCONA, 05 MAY – The mayor of Chiaravalle (Ancona) Damiano Costantini, 51, lawyer, has negotiated a sentence of one year (suspended sentence), accused of persecuting a municipal employee with whom he had had a romantic relationship . The hearing, after the immediate judgment requested by the prosecutor Andrea Laurino, was held today before the gup Alberto Pallucchini, at the Court of Ancona. Costantini, defended by the lawyer Roberto Marini, did not come to the courtroom. Also absent was the offended party represented by the lawyer Roberta Montenovo of the “Women and justice” association. The story had emerged in January, after a provision by the investigating judge had prohibited the mayor from approaching the victim, who had reported him for stalking. A ban on approaching that had made the mayor’s work complex, due to the possibility of crossing into the offices of the Municipality headquarters. To push the employee to denounce the mayor several episodes, which began a year ago. Between the two, according to the complaint, there was first a sentimental relationship then interrupted by the woman. The persecutory acts would begin immediately after, even in the workplace with offenses and humiliations. She would also be stalked and targeted with threatening messages and phone calls.
Costantini has always rejected the accusations: “he chose to negotiate despite my different opinion” explains the lawyer Marini. “My client wanted to avoid involving other people and making his family suffer unnecessarily – adds the lawyer -. With a trial it would have ended up in the press every time, he wanted to avoid exposing himself further”. The precautionary measure of the approach ban, ordered on 22 November last, lapsed with today’s plea bargain. Costantini, in his second term, was elected with a civic list.
