Gennaro Caruso, a historic merchant, had for years managed a counter in the covered structure in Via Vittorio Veneto

TARVISIO. The Tarvisio community is in mourning for the sudden death of Gennaro Caruso. The man, who had just turned 63, died on Saturday 17 July due to cardiac arrest.

He was taken ill in the afternoon while he was at the market, then transported to the clinic where he died.

Originally from Naples, he was a historic trader in the market in via Vittorio Veneto. Caruso had arrived in Tarvisio in 1975 with his brother Antonio, opening a clothing wholesaler under the Hotel Meublé.

From here he moved to the covered commercial structure, becoming a point of reference with his knitwear counter managed until a couple of years ago, before renting the stand.

Member of a large family – in addition to Antonio, there are the brothers Cira, Rita, Vincenzo and Liliana -, he married Manuela Vuerich in Valcanale.

A tragic fate separated them in 2002, when the woman was the victim of a car accident, leaving “Gennarino”, as many called him, alone to raise his children Luca, who is now 32 years old and is a ski instructor, and Francesca, 28, a saleswoman in Austria.

Caruso’s death aroused vast condolences. “He was an exquisite person. It leaves a great void »says brother-in-law Luciano Simeone, husband of Cira Caruso.

Gennaro has always been at the forefront of associations, as recalls his friend and restaurateur Anna Ferrauti.

«In 1999 – he explains – together we had proposed the idea of a twinning between Capri and Tarvisio and he had promoted“ Notte di Note ”, an appreciated series of concerts in via Vittorio Veneto.

He was a positive person, in love with Tarvisio and his people. Lately, despite the difficulties of the pandemic, I had seen him active and eager to propose new initiatives. He was a fighter ».

Among the qualities of Caruso, also generosity: «He helped many people, he was always with his hand extended to those in need – remembers Ferrauti with emotion -. As far as I’m concerned, a great person is leaving ».

The death of Gennaro threw the commercial world of Tarvisio into despair: «He was a splendid man, always active and benevolent, ready to support others, even psychologically.

He made many sacrifices for his family, always with a smile on his face »is the portrait drawn by Susy Albano, president of the Tarvisio Market Association. –
