Michela’s dream shattered by the pandemic: “I close my gym, too many uncertainties and I don’t feel like going into debt”

GEMONA. Forcing her to lower the shutters of her gym, a project cherished for a long time and started seven years ago, were the Covid emergency and protracted inactivity. A difficult choice for Michela Ceschiutti who, however, does not want to give up being an instructor.

These days, on the Pontebbana state road in Gemona, the Puntofit gym has ceased its activity. A reality, close to the Bravimarket in Taboga, the result of a long experience in the competitive sector that Ceschiutti started at a very young age, then transformed into the profession of instructor, operating for many years in other realities in the area.

For her, lowering the shutters, concluding the rental agreement in advance with the owner of the premises and having her exercise equipment transported elsewhere, was certainly not easy.

«I can’t express – he says – what I felt when I watched the truck take away the equipment from my gym, for which I spent energy, sacrifices, and at times even neglected family and friendships.

But you don’t live with the hope that something better will happen. No one thought of us sports operators: they forced us to close after having made us spend to adapt the structures and the refreshment points are not enough to maintain plants that cost even when they are stopped. I didn’t feel like going into debt even more and risking mortgaging the house ».

Michela Ceschiutti, 46, has been a sports instructor for 25 years: for a long time she gained her experience in the local athletic sector, in Gemonathletics.

Then, seven years ago he started the “Puntofit” gym. A commitment that had begun to bear fruit, so much so that at the beginning of 2020 the gym, with its team of 8 instructors, had over 450 members.

The arrival of the pandemic had not stopped her from carrying out her project, but after a year Michela had to deal with the numbers.

«I have never given up in this year – says Ceschiutti – by giving free lessons online, in the summer we reopened, spending to tear down walls and have more space and we organized outdoor activities.

But an entrepreneurial project is conducted according to the calibrated data of a business plan, certainly not on the hope of reopening without knowing when and how: firstly because if the reopening were to take place in June it would not be a favorable period for gyms, moreover it can invest to host a certain number of people, which is then halved. The accounts don’t add up like that ».

Despite the closure, Michela Ceschiutti does not give up, intending to still play her role as an instructor.

Also because, this Covid emergency something has taught her, despite everything: “For the moment – says Michela – I have adapted a space at home to do online lessons, both with the users I had in Puntofit and also by acquiring other people, even from distant places like Luxembourg.

Whenever possible, I will do outdoor lessons while maintaining the online service with those who are far away. I learned that you have to rand invent yourself to adapt to the times if you want to carry on the projects you believe in. I closed the gym, but not my VAT number ».
