Ten dead on the bottom of the boat with 99 other people piled one on top of the other and forced to remain for 13 hours next to their comrades, probably dead trampled in the crowd of migrants too tight on a boat that is too small.
It is the latest dramatic rescue from MSF’s Geo Barents ship which this afternoon, after an Alarm phone request for help confirmed by the Sea Bird sighting plane, rescued a boat with a hundred migrants 30 miles from the Libyan coast.
At the bottom of the overcrowded boat that was taking on water ten corpses were found, probably suffocated and trampled by their companions, as documented by the dramatic photos of Candida Lobes.
There are now 186 people on board, including many women and small children, one of only ten months traumatized by what they experienced. The boat they had been herded into by the smugglers had been drifting since this morning.
Today four boats have been spotted in the Mediterranean by the NGO Seabird plane: a large wooden boat with about 200 people that arrived in Lampedusa, a dinghy with a hundred people and a tubular that was deflating, another dinghy with about forty people and the boat with the 100 people dangerously tilted, then joined by the Geo Barents and on board which the ten lifeless bodies were found.
