Migrants, Musumeci’s alarm cry: “System built on indifference and unspeakable interests”

The President of the Region will meet the Minister of the Interior Lamorgese to discuss the landings of the last few hours along the Sicilian coast

“After a year, the feeling is that Sicily and Italy continue to be abandoned on the management of landings. I expect a lot from the new government because the management of migration up to now has found the European Union practically insensitive. The strong credibility of the President of the Council in the community institutions and the broadening of the new government’s base of consensus to the political forces of the center-right are two indices that give hope for a more advanced attitude ”.

This was stated by the president of the Sicilian Region Nello Musumeci, on the eve of the meeting at the Interior Ministry on the migrant emergency. «To the Minister of the Interior – who immediately accepted my request for a meeting – I want to bring the alarm cry of a regional president who has no desire to argue but who is ready to sit around the table of solutions. One fact is certain: the pandemic has already exhausted our fellow citizens and stressed the economy of our territories. We can afford everything, except a summer in which the national and international media have to deal with us not for the beauty and hospitality of our places but for the growth of a flow of migrants, who remain the main victims of a system based on indifference and, sometimes, of unspeakable interests “, he concludes.
