Migrants rescued at sea by Sea Watch 400 people

by admin

An operation at sea that lasted about 5 hours has brought 400 people to safety and “now they are receiving the first treatment on the Sea Watch 3 and on the Ocean Viking”. The news was reported by the same German NGO that dealt with the rescue.

Yesterday there were four rescues off the coast of Libya carried out by the crew of the Ocean Viking, the last one in the late afternoon that had spoken of 196 survivors on board the ship. And the confirmation came from the Twitter profile of the NGO Sos Méditerranée. “Fourth rescue today. 21 people, including 7 women and 3 minors, were rescued from a wooden boat in distress in international waters off Libya. OceanViking was alerted by Sea Watch’s Seabird plane.”

In the afternoon, the Ocean Viking had intervened in three other relief efforts off the coast of Libya. “Around noon, 54 people were rescued from a dinghy in distress. Many of the shipwrecked, especially the women, were physically exhausted. Some reported fuel burns”, writes the NGO, which states that it has saved another 64 people. On board the ship there were also two pregnant women and 33 minors, 22 of whom were unaccompanied.

And there are eleven landings that have been registered during the night in Lampedusa where a total of 191 migrants arrived.
