«I wanted to report a serious episode that took place on the evening of last April 14 at the Mauritian Hospital in Turin. My 91-year-old father-in-law, hospitalized for pulmonary fibrosis, passed away at 9.45 pm. However, no doctor or health care personnel in the 1B General Medicine ward bothered to notify the family, despite having the telephone numbers available. During the Covid period, in fact, family members are not allowed to stay with their loved ones (or at least this is the case in that department), unless by prior appointment and for a limited period of time. Greater communication effort would be expected from hospital staff in keeping family members informed. And, instead, we learned of the death the next day at 12, after several attempts to contact the doctors or nurses of the ward during the morning. It goes without saying further how serious and disrespectful such behavior is. Moreover, although we have reported these facts to the URP and the hospital’s Health Department by email on April 16, to date we have not received any response “.
