ROME. Covid frees schools from polling stations. The Interior Ministry has allocated 2 million euros for the Municipalities which, by 15 July, will have to identify alternative locations to school complexes, suitable for hosting the polling stations for consultations between 15 September and 15 October.
The head of the Internal and Territorial Affairs department of the Ministry of the Interior, Claudio Sgaraglia, issued a circular to the prefects to sensitize the mayors to continue with the activity of identifying locations. The criteria and methods for granting the financing are delegated to a decree of the Minister of the Interior, to be adopted in agreement with the Minister of Economy and Finance, after the agreement in the Unified Conference, by 15 June.
To facilitate the activity at the territorial level, the head of the internal and territorial affairs department of the Interior Ministry recalled the contents of the document drawn up by the working group composed of heads of the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Education, Anci and Upi, in which have specified the necessary requirements for the establishment of the “election room” and for the identification of the buildings that house the polling stations, indicating, by way of example, some types of buildings that can be used for this purpose.
