Municipal elections: the new mayors of Villacidro, Serramanna and Sardara

Between failures and passes, there is a radical change and not without significant signals from the populations

VILLACIDRO. Earthquake at the top of the three main municipalities of the Medio Campidano that went to vote in this electoral round. Between failures and passes, there is a radical change and not without significant signals from the populations. Beyond political affiliations, names and people prevailed. Positive and negative.

Let’s start with Villacidro, co-capital of Medio Campidano, where the outgoing mayor Marta Cabriolu, elected five years ago at the head of a center-right list, was severely punished by the electorate who reserved her a paltry 17.38% of electoral consensus, more or less the same percentage as the third competitor Antonio Muscas (leftist). On the other hand, the new mayor Federico Sollai, 43 years old, comes out as a true winner, with a 68.27%. 49-year-old engineer with a public employment, he is from the Pd area but has put on a cross list with exponents also from the center-right area, all quite young but also with previous administrative experience in the former council opposition, where Federico Sollai himself was at the head of his council group. It is precisely among the benches of the minority that the transversal list of the new mayor was born: a real triumph that rewarded him and severely punished the outgoing Marta Cabriolu.

Also in Serramanna you change music. The young entrepreneur Gabriele Littera, one of the three founders of Sardex, who until now had never been involved in politics, arrives on the top seat of the city council. With a past as a sympathizer of the independence area and with a father, Ninetto, a great exponent of the PCI, he has prepared a list of young people who will bring a new wave of renewal to the town hall. It is clear that the voters, in a historically fiefdom of the PD and previously of the PDS and PCI, have turned their backs on the old administrative and political class. In particular, they intended to punish the outgoing mayor Sergio Murgia (Pd) who was placed in the minority a year ago by a part of his own party and forced to pack his bags, leading to the replacement of a prefectural commissioner to lead the administration of the country. Murgia did not reappear and favored the election of the new mayor. Gigi Piano, secretary of the Democratic Party of Medio Campidano, former provincial councilor and regional councilor, unexpectedly defeated by Gabriele Littera (52.8% against 37.09) made the expense of the bad light in which the Democratic Party was thrown. Third competitor, without already having many chances at the start, Carlo Phaler, stopped at 10.09.

Twist also in Sardara, where Giorgio Zucca, retired Army colonel, former mayor until 2010, of the Brothers of Italy area but, if necessary, also a critical spirit towards the party, prevailed by only 55 votes over Ercole Melis , veterinarian of the ASL of Sanluri and outgoing deputy mayor at the head of a center-left area deployment. Zucca has promised that the relaunch of the Santa Mariacquas spa area, his workhorse also in 2010, will be brought back to the center of administrative activity.
