Music, theater, dance, readings and games: over one hundred events for seven weeks with “Christmas in Udine”

UDINE. The kermis of events promoted by the Municipality of Udine to animate the city throughout the period of Advent until the middle of next January is at the starting line.

The calendar, developed by the Department of Culture, sees the contribution of the Library, the Civic Museums, the Ethnographic Museum and the Friulian Museum of Natural History, as well as the initiatives organized by the Department of Tourism and major events and the Department to Education.

The program is enriched by the proposals of about twenty associations in the area, which present a series of articulated projects not only for the historic center, but also for the outskirts of the city, with particular attention to the theme “Christmas traditions in Friuli”.

The billboard contains the most diverse genres and languages: music, theater, art, dance, meetings, readings and games. Over one hundred events for seven weeks of programming make up a rich and varied program with cultural proposals for all age groups and areas of interest.

It begins on Friday 26 November, at 6 pm, with the switching on of the lights of the Christmas trees in via Lionello and piazza Duomo. For the occasion, the city will be decorated with festive lights and suggestive projections on the main buildings, doors and squares.

The bagpipers of the Musicologists association will enliven the party with traditional Christmas melodies.

Sunday 5 December, at 10, in Piazza Venerio there will be the opening of the ice skating rink, an irresistible attraction with a typically Christmas atmosphere, while for the last night of the year the sky of Udine will light up with fireworks with the silent fireworks display at midnight on Friday 31 December from the Castle hill.

Great space will have the music. On Saturday 3 December at 8.45 pm at the Nuovo Giovanni da Udine theater, Ceghedaccio will propose the vintage event Let the music play ’70 / ’80 with the Symphony orchestra Fvg directed by Denis Feletto.

Another unmissable concert, also at the Teatro Nuovo, will be held on Thursday 23 December on the occasion of the twenty-third anniversary of the massacre of the policemen in Viale Hungary with the extraordinary participation of Piano Twelve, a spectacular and exciting ensemble of twelve pianos that will take the public on a journey from thrill through four centuries of music, offering the most beautiful melodies ever in a whirlwind of timeless pieces, from Bach to Piazzolla, from Williams to Lennon. The concert is offered by the Municipality of Udine.

Many other concerts will find a home in the city churches such as those proposed by the Udine organ academy for the Organ Notes review in the city with the artistic direction of Beppino Delle Vedove or those of the Luigi Bon Foundation entitled “Christmas of harmonies”, with the direction artistic by Claudio Mansutti, which will end at the Spazio Venezia in via Stuparich on 11 January with the swing gala dedicated to Greta Garbo.

The traditional concert of the Immaculate Conception returns to the church of San Pietro Martire on 8 December at 8.45 pm, which recounts through the singing entrusted to the “Egidio Fant” choir of San Daniele, directed by Flavio Turissini, and accompanied on the keyboard by Alessio De Franzoni, entire waiting path taken from the Annunciation to the Nativity.

Dance is also on stage with two appointments: on Thursday 23 December, at 5 pm and 9 pm, at the Palamostre the “Natale in danza” show offers the choreography of the greatest students of the Axis dance schools.

The special event “Nuevo tango – Gnuf” is scheduled for Friday 7 January at the Palamostre, at 8.45 pm, by the Friulian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. The evening, directed by Giancarlo Rizzi, is dedicated to Astor Piazzolla with Davide Tomasi on guitar and Sebastiano Zorza on accordion.

On 17 December at 8.30 pm the church of Gesù Buon Pastore in via Riccardo Di Giusto hosts the event “Stories of love and friendship” with music, dance and poetry reading in Friulian by Father Turolodo: Don Beppe’s band plays Marano, solo voice and conductor of the evening with the extraordinary participation of the Vocinvolo choir, conducted by Lucia Follador.

Wednesday 22 December in the Duomo the Pueri Cantores of Udine directed by Annamaria Dell’Oste celebrate their fortieth Christmas together with the Semper Cantores choir, directed by Andrea Toffolini.

Sunday 12 December, at 5 pm, the gospel arrives in the church of Gesù Buon Pastore with The Messengers Mass Choir, directed by Lucia Lesa, together with The NuVoices Project, directed by Rudy Fantin.

The gospel will also stop at the Palamostre on Monday 27 December at 9 pm, with The Groovy Xmas Band, directed by Rudy Fantin: special guest of the evening the Californian guitarist Stef Burns, already a soloist for Vasco Rossi and other international rock stars.

The Messengers Mass Choir will return on Saturday 1st January, New Year’s Day, at 5 pm in the Loggia del Lionello with the concert “Gospel for the new year”, directed by Lucia Lesa.

The thematic projects carried out in the area by cultural associations, parishes and local communities are diverse and articulated. The parish of S. Maria Annunziata del Duomo di Udine proposes “Between the shepherds and the kings”, eleven appointments with images, music and poetry of the Nativity and Epiphany in Friuli.

From 1 December to 10 January, special lighting will reveal the beauty of the sacred works of art kept in the cathedral. “Christmas of rebirth” is an initiative of the Pro Loco Città di Udine which offers guided tours of the most evocative views of the city center on the three Fridays of Advent from 3 to 17 December, enriched by musical moments offered by the Reana del Rojale choir and by students of the “Jacopo Tomadini” Conservatory in the seat of Palazzo Ottelio and in the parish of Carmine.

The project of the Musicologists Association “Christmas in music along the streets of Udine” brings two different formats of itinerant entertainment to all the districts: the bagpipers and the brass trio ‘Fûr par Fûr’.

Fourteen appointments planned by Cussignacco in Beivârs and Godia with passages also foreseen at the residences for the elderly of Gervasutta and La Quiete. The Madins project of the Fûrclap Association will also have an itinerant character. It starts on Sunday 5 December at 6 pm with San Nicolò and the Legend of Santa Claus, traditional readings and music to the sound of bagpipes from via Lionello to via Mercatovecchio.

On Tuesday 21 December in the morning Madins, waiting for Christmas, will meet the children of the preschools of Paderno, Chiavris and Beivârs with the stories and the music of the novena. Finally, Saturday 8 January at 8.30 pm in the church of S. Pio X in Baldasseria it will be the turn of Un an plen di fortune with music, songs and readings to wish a happy year.

Districts again protagonists on Tuesday 7 December with “Di gnuf ducj ensiemi: un viac di emotions tal cuartir”, by the parish of Sant’Osvaldo: at around 7 pm the lights of the Christmas fir trees placed in front of the churches of Sant’Osvaldo in via Pozzuolo and San Paolo in via San Paolo.

Saturday 11 December at 5 pm appointment at the oratory in via Bertiolo for the lighting of the nativity scene with musical entertainment. The following Saturday – December 18 – in the morning walk through the streets of the Sant’Osvaldo and San Paolo neighborhoods, with the children of the kindergarten, the new band from Orzano and the local Afds section. At noon, opening of the photographic exhibition on the life of the neighborhood between past and present.

Christmas is tinged with yellow on Friday 10 December and Tuesday 4 January at 8.45 pm in the multipurpose room in via Veneto in Cussignacco, when Giallo di Natale will be staged, the story of a crime that took place in Udine almost a hundred years ago, by and with Francesco Cevaro: the theatrical monologue is produced by the Compagnia della Testa.

The theater returns on Thursday 23 December at 4.30 pm at the Bellavitis auditorium in the Aurora district with the show Nightmare before Christmas, produced by the Rifo theater with Roberta Colacino and Manuel Buttus who interpret the nightmare before Christmas, assisted by the Fagagna band complex directed by Mauro Verona and with the collaboration of the Mamarogi association.

The Rifo theater returns on Tuesday 28 December, at 9 pm, to the Palamostre theater with the show Se non avessi più te… by Manuel Buttus with Matteo Sgobino, Nicoletta Oscuro and Manuel Buttus himself.

“Christmas, memory of a present fact” is the title of the project, developed by the Il Villaggio Cultural Center for the weekend before Christmas.

Saturday 18 December, at 10 am, The heart of man, thirst for the infinite, or a guided tour of the exhibition “The shape of infinity” at Casa Cavazzini; at 3 pm guided tour, starting from Piazza San Giacomo, to the places of the city that testify to the religiosity of the Friulian people, on the trail of Christmas.

Sunday 19 December at 5 pm living nativity scene in Piazza San Giacomo with sacred representation and traditional song of the Missus, a peculiar Friulian musical tradition, with repetition on Monday 20 December at 9 pm on the occasion of the presentation of the international cooperation project ‘Emmaus’ on the educational reception work Ukrainian Avsi Fvg – a network of volunteers and solidarity – in connection with the Cultural Center of Grace.

“Under the tree with Calvino and Beelzebub” is the radio Advent calendar, conceived by Radio Magica, with the rewriting of 24 stories by Italo Calvino in three events.

The final storytelling event, conducted by Angelo Floramo, will be held at the Teatro Nuovo Giovanni da Udine, crowning a cultural animation project aimed at everyone and realized through radio and theater. Special guest is the children’s writer Roberto Piumini.

A series of guided tours and stories in motion for families at the Ancient Art Gallery in the castle, at the Ethnographic Museum and in the Cavazzzini House is planned by the Civic Museums – Arteventi museum education.

They range from the ancient inhabitants of the caves in Friuli to the mystery of Tiepolo, from the playful and narrative traditions of Friuli to the great exhibition The shape of infinity. The Civic Library “V. Joppi ”proposes numerous initiatives with the Hour of stories 0 – 3 years in the Corgnali room and 4 – 8 years in online mode by the Tileggounastoria Club.

There will also be the Dialogues in the Library with book presentations and meetings with the author (with the presence, among others, of Gabriella Bucco and Angelo Floramo), the appointments of the week “Born to read” and the new “Progetto Leggiamo 0 – 18 Fvg ”on 18 December in the Corgnali room for librarians, operators, teachers, parents and volunteer readers.

From Friday 3 to Sunday 5 December, from 10 to 18, children and parents are invited to the Ethnographic Museum in via Grazzano to build together a krampus to hang at home.

On Sunday 5 and 12 December at 3.30 pm, always at the Ethnographic Museum, young and old are expected for a walk that will revive Christmas a few years ago in Friuli, retracing together the most ancient and deep-rooted traditions of popular culture such as that linked, precisely on the evening of December 12, waiting for Saint Lucia.

At the Friulian Museum of Natural History in via Sabbadini it will be possible to meet to discover the historical-anthropological path that goes from the castelliere to the castle, the trees along the streets of Udine, the waterways and fossils in the city respectively Saturday 4th ( 2.30 pm), Sunday 5 (10 am), Sunday 12 (10 am) and Sunday 18 (2.30 pm) December.

Two unmissable events for children aged 6 to 12 are scheduled in the Loggia del Lionello from 15 to 18 on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 December or “Santa’s shop”, a proposal from the municipal playroom.

In Santa’s workshop, preparations are underway for the magical Christmas night. Helped by his elven friends, the white-bearded old man builds toys that he will bring as gifts to girls and boys around the world.

The program is completed by the 21st edition of the Udine, city of Peace prize, set up by the Unesco Club and the great piano concerts, organized by the Ricci Academy at Palazzo Antonini-Cernazai in via Petracco in collaboration with the University.
