“Musumeci makes us lose”. The brawl in the center-right in Sicily starts again

The counting of the ballot papers has just begun, the victory seems to be clear but the brawl in the Sicilian center has already started again. After the first projections on the results of the lists, with Forza Italia in front of the Democratic Party and above all the Brothers of Italy, Berlusconian leader Gianfranco Miccichè starts the attack of the governor Nello Musumeci, vetoing his re-nomination in the autumn regional elections: “We ask formally at Meloni a table of the center-right to decide the candidate for the Region. We cannot have a candidate as divisive as Musumeci who would condemn us to lose. We aim for the unity of the center-right and we believe that in view of the Regionals we cannot reach the name of Musumeci. It doesn’t matter if Forza Italia or Fratelli d’Italia comes first in this competition, we want to sit around a table and think, but if not only we say that Musumeci is not the right candidate, there will be some problem, or not? ».

“Miccichè is a sower of weeds, animated by a genuine obsession”, retorts Gaetano Armao, vice president of the Region.

A month ago, in an interview with La Stampa, Micciché defined Musumeci “a fascist from Catania” and proclaimed that “he will never be re-nominated”. A furious controversy followed, with the intervention of the top management of the Brothers of Italy.
