Emergency landing in Bari. A Volotea Airbus A319 flying from Mykonos to Naples had an engine number one failure while flying over the Ionian Sea, the same that forced the pilots to hijack the plane on the runway of the Karol Wojtyla airport around 9.20 on Tuesday 14 June.

The 180 passengers on board were not injured and the operations were carried out according to the procedures. Some departing flights reported only a slight delay, authorities said.

Volotea’s Airbus 319 landed in Bari

The flight departed from the Greek island at 9.49 local time (8.49 in Italy) and once it reached the Apulian coast south of Otranto it diverted its route towards Bari. The pilots would have had to turn off the engine to continue. the descent to the Palese airport, where the jet arrived at 10.25. The passengers are waiting for another company plane, scheduled for 2 pm, to take them back to their destination.
