New criteria for the yellow zone, Lavevaz against: ‘inapplicable for the Aosta Valley’

Valle d’Aosta ‘risks closing for 2 or 3 hospitalized’

The government is about to change the criteria for assigning the yellow zones and the colors of the Regions. To go from white to yellow, in the future, we will look at the data on the incidence of Covid-19 cases and also at the hospitalization rate of positive patients.

For the white zone, the parameter of 50 weekly infections per 100 thousand inhabitants remains for at least three weeks. If a region exceeds this figure, but remains within the limit of 150 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, it is necessary to look at the employment rate of the hospital or intensive care wards which must remain, respectively, below 15% and below 10%. A region that exceeds the threshold of infections and that of hospitalizations for Covid-19 turns yellow.

The new conditions for the yellow zone are negatively evaluated by the president of the region, Erik Lavevaz. “The parameters, proposed by the government, regarding the percentages of occupancy of intensive care and medical area places for the transition from one risk range to another are inapplicable for the small numbers of the Aosta Valley,” he says. «Our region risks” closing “for only 2 or 3 positive patients admitted to our only regional hospital. This is a far from remote risk, considering that during the tourist season the population present in the region triples ».

During the meeting with the government, Lavevaz proposed to introduce “an allowance of at least 5 beds for intensive care to be applied to the thresholds identified by the government” for the Aosta Valley and smaller regions.
