«The shortage of staff is a historical problem that we are suffering especially for the nursing part. Currently these professionals are engaged both in the hospital and on the territory, we cannot steal resources from other realities, such as facilities for the elderly or for the disabled. We must pay attention to the numbers and start careful planning in order to have trained staff. The first objective is to keep resources within the territory, avoiding exodus and giving the opportunity to professionals to show their value. And then we will do contests, trying to be attractive; it will also be necessary to draw on the Arcs rankings to recruit nurses ».
The pandemic has drastically reduced surgery and elective activity. When do we leave?
“We are already starting again, the day surgery has been reactivated in Palmanova, as well as in San Daniele, and we are considering the reopening of other operating theaters in Udine, but it must be said that this moment sees us engaged on three fronts: the ordinary activity of which we must regain possession of is added to the extraordinary, which is becoming everyday life, of control over the territory through pads and contact tracing. And there is also the vaccination campaign which sees us strongly committed and for which we must be grateful to the University, a source of collaboration for the employment of postgraduates who are important new forces. Recognition also goes to the retired volunteer doctors who are giving support in the anamnestic activity and to our doctors who cover shifts outside the work area ».
What are the results of the vaccination campaign?
“These forces allow us to reach the predetermined numbers: in the last week we have administered over 4,000 vaccines per day, reaching even 5,000 units, the target we are aiming for”.
And among the staff?
“We are well advanced, just over 15% of the staff have not been vaccinated. In our company, participation was highest among doctors. We have defections among the midwives and the oss, but the reminders have already started. Before evaluating some measures against those who do not get vaccinated, we will send them a letter inviting them to take action ».

“We are working on it these days, it is a question of guaranteeing the right to 8 thousand people, employees who, in some cases, have accumulated an important number of overtime and whom I thank because with a spirit of service they have committed themselves to the pandemic and have made the difference.
