Montebelluna, the mother of Mattia Battistetti, who died on the construction site on 29 April 2021, has launched an appeal to Uno Mattina

MONTEBELLUNA. “It is not enough for those responsible to pay, severe penalties are needed: only in this way perhaps it will be possible to give dignity to those who went to work in the morning and never returned home”. Monica Michielin, mother of Mattia Battistetti – the 23-year-old from Montebelluna who died at work on 29 April 2021 – launched the appeal to the Rai Uno Mattina program, hosted by Marco Frittella and Monica Giandotti.

The woman had sent a letter to the hosts of the program telling the story of Mattia and explaining how his son loved his work: “He used to build scaffolding for 13-14 hours a day”.

Connecting from home, Mattia’s mother retraced the story of her son, his playing football, his being active in the White Cross. Then he pointed out how the call received from Mattarella last summer, in response to an appeal from him after the tragedy, the family was very pleased: “A gesture of high sensitivity, yours”.

Monica Michielin recalled how on 29 December an association was formed in the name of her son, with already 130 members, which aims to raise awareness among young people on the issues of safety in the workplace.

In the end the appeal: “No more words, no more deaths at work, something must be done. It is not enough for those responsible to pay, but severe penalties are needed. Only in this way, perhaps, will it be possible to give dignity to those who went to work in the morning and never returned home ”.
