“Lawful to demonstrate, not to interrupt essential services or block passengers.” Tomorrow the principals in Treviso and Conegliano

TREVISO. Piazza dei Signori? “It is certainly not the only one where demonstrations can be held.” On returning from vacation, one of the hottest dossiers that Prefect Maria Rosaria Laganà finds on the table is that of the growing wave of “no pass” protests.

On the one hand, the heterogeneous front of activists who contest the limitations of the “health passport” is boiling, but on the other hand, there are also those who complain of the damage connected to the now regular presence of sit-ins in Piazza dei Signori. The restaurateurs of the center carried out a sensational “counter-protest” last Saturday and there are already those who hypothesize to evict the “no passes” in other areas of the city. Stock Exchange Square?

«Why not» replies the prefect «Only it is not up to us to authorize these initiatives and to grant spaces, it is a prerogative of the mayor. In the next few days we will also discuss this issue directly, within the usual weekly committees. The situation should be noted, also considering the complaints of the managers of the premises in the historic center. If the demonstration involves inconvenience, I do not think the freedom to demonstrate is undermined by granting another square ”. On this front, the word will soon pass to the municipality of Treviso.

But well before the Saturday sit-in, now a collective ritual for the “conspiracy” and “no-pass” people, another initiative is planned, which will, in all probability, force the police, the commissioner and the prefect to carry out an ad hoc committee for order and security today. The galaxy that is contesting the government’s measures to combat the pandemic has in fact made an appointment throughout Italy in various railway stations, with the intention of blocking them.

In Treviso and Conegliano, the appointment is at 2.30 pm in front of the station with the intention of entering at 3 pm and blocking the transit of convoys and people. «They don’t let us leave on the train without a slavery passport?», Reads the “viral” manifesto circulated on social media, «then no one will leave».

This protest organized by the “people, self-managed, peaceful”, inevitably ended up in the sights of the authorities. The Prefect has full confidence in the work of the police: «I have seen the poster, but I have no official news», he declares, «the invitation is to demonstrate judiciously. Essential services cannot be prevented, people cannot be denied the opportunity to move: inappropriate behaviors will not be tolerated. The services are up to the commissioner but it is clear that if you violate the provisions and the laws you are sanctioned, at the administrative level or even, in the worst case, criminal. Whoever makes certain proclamations »he concludes« must also know what the consequences are ».
