SALERNO – No del Tar to the appeal presented by Legambiente to block the defense and nourishment works of the coastal strip from Pontecagnano to Agropoli. An invasive work, for the environmentalist association, not necessary for the coast as the phenomenon of erosion manifests itself in a different way along the stretch concerned. A significant signal on the future of the project concerning Pontecagnano, Battipaglia, Eboli, Capaccio, Agropoli comes from the president of the province of Salerno, Michele Strianese. «The work has already been contracted out and it is the province’s intention to continue the process. The company that will carry out the work has already been identified. We will go ahead with the offices in charge to follow up on a project wanted by the province and the region and which is linked to the nourishment works carried out in Salerno. In the various phases of the project, every aspect was taken into consideration, including that related to the environment. The phenomenon of marine erosion involves several stretches of coast, especially that of Pontecagnano. It is an urgent work, ”says Strianese.
The mayor of Capaccio, Franco Alfieri, welcomes the decision of the Tar judges: «The sea represents an economic resource for coastal municipalities. We are not the first to implement coastal defense works to respond to the effects caused by marine erosion. Not only that, but the problem also affects the quality of life as it happens on the stretch of coast of Pontecagnano where the beach hardly exists anymore ». In the absence of the Great Project, the development ideas of the individual municipalities involved in the elaboration of the Southern Salerno Coastal Masterplan desired by the region would hardly fit together. «A choral project is needed where we can finally talk about the development of the entire coastal strip. Politics will have the task of expressing a vision for a true revival of coastal municipalities, ”adds the mayor of Capaccio. Needs that touch with hand the many operators in the marine sector. Vincenzo Consalvo, president of the SeleCoast Tourist District, knows something about this: «We are looking forward to the start of the works. The interventions will start, on an experimental basis, right from Pontecagnano ».
Phenomenon that also affects the splendid beaches of Agropoli, with the mayor Adamo Coppola underlining: «We had to resort to interventions to respond to the strong erosive action of the sea which has considerably reduced the beaches on our coast. We are therefore in favor of projects that go in this direction in which the environmental factor is reconciled with the economic one ». The opinion of the mayor of Battipaglia, Cecilia Francese, is of a different tenor: «There remain considerable doubts, in the environmentalist world, and in municipal administrators, on the effectiveness of the intervention. Are we sure it is wise not to take this into account? We believe that it is wiser to open with great secularism a confrontation with the administrations concerned, with the reserve Dice Sele Tanagro, with the environmental movements, in order to find possible technical solutions that mitigate the feared risks ». Alberto Serretiello, president of the “Riviera Salernitana” Tourist District, expressed the hopes of the operators: «The Pontecagnano bathing establishments are now at sea.
Some cases similar to Battipaglia. The work is necessary, also to prevent the disappearance of historical bathing activities on our coast ». The “No” front, after having collected the defeat at the TAR, evaluates the appeal. “The contradictory nature of the decision stands out which, on the one hand, acknowledged, as contested by Legambiente, that the Via provision, approved in April 2014, had expired in 2019 for the expiry of the five-year term of the law, and, from ‘other, rejected the objection of inadmissibility regarding this profile because, according to the judging panel, the same had to be formulated with a specific appeal for additional reasons “, reads the note from Legambiente, supported in the appeal by the Natural Reserves Authority Foce Sele-Tanagro, Eremita and Marzano mountains. President Antonio Briscione announces: «We will start an institutional confrontation, starting from the province of Salerno to investigate the current state of the affair. From the outcome we will evaluate a possible appeal to the Council of State ».
