[Voice of Hope December 2, 2021](Comprehensive report by our reporter Chu Yunjue)On December 2, Liu Jiekong, a former member of the Standing Committee of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee, was relegated to the post of Secretary of the Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee. Zhou Jiangyong, the former secretary of the Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee, was sacked in August this year. Since then, the post of the Party Secretary has been vacant for more than three months. Liu Jie was born in 1970 and is the youngest member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Party of China. When Xi Jinping visited Jiangxi in 2016, he also praised him by name, which attracted the attention of the outside world.

The Zhejiang News mobile client reported on the 2nd that the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China approved Liu Jie as a member of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee. Just the day before, Guizhou Radio and Television reported that Liu Jie was removed from the Standing Committee and Member of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee and had another appointment.

Liu Jie was born in 1970 and has worked in Hunan for more than 20 years. He has been working in the steel industry before. In 2008, he was transferred to the head of Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce. After 2011, he moved to Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province. He served as mayor and secretary of the municipal party committee for 5 years. In September, he was transferred to the appointed deputy secretary-general of Jiangxi Province. In the same year, he joined the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and became a deputy provincial-level official. Since November 2016, he has served as member of the Standing Committee and Secretary-General of the Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee.

In May 2018, Liu Jie was transferred to Guizhou and served successively as member of the Standing Committee of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee, Secretary-General of the Provincial Party Committee, and Minister of the Organization Department. He is also the youngest member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee in the officialdom of the Chinese Communist Party.

Zhejiang is a province with a developed private economy in China, and Hangzhou is the leader of Zhejiang’s economy. Public information shows that Hangzhou’s GDP last year was RMB 160.06 billion, ranking eighth among the large and medium-sized cities in the country, with a per capita GDP of approximately US$20,000.

The Paper reported that Liu Jie broke a nearly 30-year practice in Hangzhou when he assumed his new post: Since 1992, the leaders of the Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee have been the leaders of Zhejiang Province.

Airborne and breaking conventions show that the high-level CCP attaches great importance to Liu Jie, and the outside world also believes that this is a signal that his career is promising. And Liu Jie’s background also attracted attention.

Looking through the internet data, it was found that Liu Jie was neither a member of Xi Jinping’s New Army nor his old Minjiang Ministry. At the same time, it had nothing to do with the military industry department Xi Jinping has been keen to promote in recent years. However, Liu Jie was named and praised by Xi Jinping when he visited Jiangxi in 2016. At that time, the outside world interpreted whether Xi Jinping’s approach was the same as Hu Jintao’s treatment of Hu Chunhua in the past. However, as Xi Jinping’s second term is coming to an end, his successor is still not in sight. More and more analyses believe that he will start his third term after the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China next year.

Liu Jie’s predecessor, Zhou Jiangyong, was a native of Zhejiang. On August 21 this year, the Chinese Communist Party’s official media reported that Zhou Jiangyong was suspected of serious violations of discipline and law and was undergoing disciplinary review and supervision and investigation by the State Supervision Commission of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

Since Xi Jinping once ruled Zhejiang, and Hangzhou is the birthplace and headquarters of the Internet giant Alibaba, it is rumored that Zhou Jiangyong’s family has a close relationship with Alibaba-related companies. Therefore, Zhou Jiangyong’s fall has attracted attention. After Zhou Jiangyong was investigated, the Hangzhou Commission for Discipline Inspection announced the launch of a special treatment to clean up the issue of political and business relations.
