Open day for young people and mobile teams for the elderly: an increasingly tailor-made vaccination campaign

by admin

In the race to reach the target of 80% of the immunized population by September, the vaccination campaign that is being developed under the direction of the coronavirus emergency commissioner Figliuolo is increasingly focusing on “tailor-made” solutions. The first, the “open days”: started with the idea of administering AstraZeneca doses to the over 40s, they could soon reach the youngest. The second: mobile teams to reach older people living in small towns in the hinterland.

The “open days” multiply

In these hours, open days are multiplying throughout the country to speed up the administration to increasingly younger age groups. The case of Lazio is emblematic. The administrations last weekend were a total of 158,276, of which 22 thousand precisely in the open day dedicated to 40-year-olds. “It is 26% more than the target indicated by the commissioner structure”, underlined the regional councilor for health, Alessio D’Amato, who is planning new open days open to young people, from forty to 30, and also to graduates. In this second case, the days to mark on the agenda are the first three of June. Overall, the Open days organized by various regions, especially in the South, and aimed at young people have a triple effect: to affect the stocks of AstraZeneca left in the refrigerators, to immunize students in view of the start of the next school year and to prevent them from administrations are concentrated in August. From this point of view, alongside or in parallel with the Open days, the ability to provide vaccination centers in the main holiday centers could prove decisive.

Task force to reach the elderly in small towns in the hinterland

Another “tailor-made” operation is represented by the work of the task forces sent by Figliuolo to immunize vulnerable people who are difficult to reach. These are thousands between seventy and eighty, still to be vaccinated in the small towns of the hinterland: a representative part of those over two million over 70 who have not yet received the first dose according to the latest report, with about 500 thousand over eighty and almost one and a half million citizens between 70 and 79 years old not yet vaccinated.

35 thousand vaccines thanks to the mobile defense offices

So far, 35 thousand vaccinations have already been carried out by 28 defense teams, the so-called “mobile home vaccinations” which – aided by the Civil Protection – reach inaccessible places throughout the country, with an average that has reached 2,300 administrations every 24 hours.

The contribution of family doctors

At the same time, the work of family doctors has also begun, which together with the special assistance continuity units (Uscar), reach patients over 60 who are unable to move to the hubs. With the lists of local health authorities in hand, they will call the patients who have not yet been immunized one by one to offer them the possibility of inoculating doses at home.
