Opponents of normalization reject “Israeli recognition” in defense of the Moroccan Sahara

It seems that the visit of the Israeli Knesset Speaker, Amir Ohana, to the Moroccan Parliament today, Thursday, and talks with the Speaker of Parliament, Rashid Talbi Alami, is the first of its kind and historic for some because of the declaration of a supportive position for the Moroccanness of the Sahara, while others considered it a “stain” on the forehead of Parliament and the state. Moroccan.

Photos and footage of the reception given to Al-Alami, the Speaker of the Knesset, showed that the event was not known as an “exaggerated celebration of the guest.” Indeed, the Speaker of the First Chamber of Parliament did not make any statement in the press meeting that was held on the occasion, leaving the door open for Amir Ohana to express the agreed-upon position. Concerning the support of the Moroccan Sahara.

The same pictures and footage also showed that Al-Alami was only accompanied by the head of the Moroccan-Israeli Friendship Committee, Noureddine Harouchi, and the head of the Council’s Foreign Affairs, National Defense and Islamic Affairs Committee, in the reception of his Israeli guest, in the apparent absence of members of the Council’s office or any of the heads of the parliamentary groups.

Yesterday, Wednesday, the opponents of the visit organized a protest in front of the parliament building, condemning and rejecting it, renewing their calls for dropping normalization and warning them of the “serious” consequences that Morocco could reap from rapprochement and alliance with Israel.

Khaled Al-Sufyani, a member of the Secretariat of the National Action Group for Palestine, considered the visit “the worst thing that could happen in Morocco,” stressing that “hosting the Speaker of the Knesset in Parliament, who represents the Moroccan people who totally reject normalization, is an insult to the people.”

Al-Sufiani said, in a statement to the electronic newspaper Hespress, that “the Moroccanness of the Sahara’s comment on the Israelis’ confession is a crime against us.”

The same spokesman added: “They despise us, as if we are unable to preserve our territorial integrity except by begging the Zionists,” considering the event “a stab in the back for the Palestinian cause, especially for Jerusalem, whose committee is chaired by the King of Morocco, and the assault on its sanctities does not stop.”

Regarding the party that the National Action Group for Palestine bears responsibility for hosting the speaker of the Israeli parliament, Al-Sufyani said: “Those who were summoned and those who receive them bear responsibility for this heinous act, and it was not possible for us to imagine it in an institution that is supposed to represent the Moroccan people.”

A member of the Secretariat of the National Action Group for Palestine continued his statement, saying: “Fear God in Morocco and the Moroccans, and fear God in our true interests. Our interest does not depend on Zionist terrorism. The military maneuvers in the African Lion mean that we have become enemies of ourselves and Palestine,” as he put it.

For his part, Rashid Hamouni, head of the parliamentary team of the Progress and Socialism Party in the House of Representatives, confirmed that his party’s official position on opening up and expanding relations with Israel “is clear and we hope that it will be in the interest of the national and Palestinian issues.”

However, Hamouni returned and said in a statement to the electronic newspaper Hespress that the parliamentary team of the Progress and Socialism Party “will not participate in any initiative or any official meeting with the Israelis,” indicating that his party is not interested in the visit of the Israeli Knesset speaker to Rabat.

The spokesman added, however, explaining: “But we do not obstruct the initiatives taken by the Moroccan state, and we will not participate in this work,” stressing that foreign policy is known to be determined by the country, and highlighting that King Mohammed VI, in his capacity as head of the Jerusalem Committee, was clear in his position from the beginning, and stressed that “Our position on the Palestinian issue is constant and does not change,” he added, “I expect Morocco to play a major role in settling the conflict and reaching a two-state solution.”
