ORROLI. “Tireless, she has never lost heart and has always adapted to do everything to provide what is necessary to make the large family live in dignity. She has always kept herself active and found joy and new motivation even in the little things ”. Thus, Sandra Pisano, one of the 19 granddaughters, “painted in a figurative sense” her grandmother Clotilde Mura, who in recent days has reached the coveted milestone of the century of life. The new centenarian eldest of the five children brought into the world by Ignazia (Naziedda) Marroccu, housewife and Giuseppe Mura, originally from Ulassai, tanner, (who died a few months before turning 100) was born in Orroli, in a modest house in vico Mandas, May 7, 1921. He attended the first two classes of elementary school and learned to read, write and count. Subsequently, until she got married, she was the domestic worker of a wealthy family in the town of Sarcidano. On 27 September 1941 she married Albino Manca, a worker, her fellow countryman, a former emigrant for work reasons, in East Africa (Cyrenaica and Tripolitania, now Libya), who was 13 years older than her. Her husband, a member of the barracellar company, a very skilled hunter, was the guardian of the powder magazine during the construction of the dam on the Rio Mulargia, one of the tributaries of the Flumendosa river (1953-1958). The wedding was celebrated on 27 September 1941 in the church of San Vincenzo by the parish priest Don Patrizio Casula. The new centennial gave birth to 7 children, 3 boys and 4 girls, of which only 6 are still alive: Giuseppe (Pinuccio), Cesira, Maria Rosaria, Salvatore, Giampiero, Ornella. The sixth-born Brunella passed away in 2019. Tzia Clotilde, despite having to look after the large family, worked hard to increase the meager income of the family budget. She has adapted to do everything. Among other things, he washed the linen and clothes of several workers involved in the construction of the dam. After her husband’s death on July 31, 1961, she did not lose heart, she rolled up her sleeves, and worked hard to ensure that her seven children were not lacking. In 1971, after commuting, she moved to Cagliari for work reasons, together with her children. Tirelessly, she managed to earn enough to live in a decent way by cleaning various houses and washing the stairs of the buildings. He worked until the age of seventy. She has always been an excellent housewife. Until he lived in Orroli he made bread at home. “His culurgionis and desserts in general and in particular those of almonds that he prepared until a few years ago were very famous, – says Sandra, his eldest niece, who works as a psychologist in the Muravera clinic”. After retiring, she was able to devote herself to one of her few hobbies, knitting. He made blankets, socks and sweaters as well as for the children for the 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He currently lives in Cagliari with his youngest daughter Ornella. In 2020 she suffered a stroke from which she is miraculously recovering. In Orroli, one of the towns in Sardinia where life expectancy is one of the highest compared to the average. “Blue zone” two other ultra centenarians are still alive: Antonietta Boi (born 21-09-1917) and Giuseppe Piras (born 05-09-2018). God willing, in less than three months Adelaide Orrù born on 10-07-1021 will also be 100 years old. Gian Carlo Bulla
